Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

Now that Smith has chosen Omaha Beach, it further solidifies him as my top pick in the Derby. Seeing him alongside Improbable as the two of them entered the stretch in the Arkansas Derby, with Ortiz pushing on Improbable while Smith sat still on Omaha Beach, it was clearly evident that Omaha Beach w...

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

1. Roadster--he's good and getting better. 2. Omaha Beach--fast, improving and a good head. 3. Maximum Security--fast but will need to rate because he won't get that pace this time. 4. Bodexpress--the most improved horse in the race; could shock the world. 5. Owendale--bounced back and looked good ...

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

Omaha Beach Maximum Security Game Winner (Not as brilliant as some others, but always there at the end) Improbable Tacitus/Roadster One unusual aspect of this Derby is that none of the Baffert contingent have been all that quick out of the gate/the first 1/4-mile. I've heard him mention the importan...

Re: Arkansas Derby G1 Million Dollars

A 101 BSF for Omaha Beach. That puts him right up there at the top of the list with Maximum Security.

Re: Arkansas Derby G1 Million Dollars

Omaha Beach reminds me of American Pharoah in more ways than one. I'll go out on a limb and predict that Smith goes with Omaha Beach for the Derby.

Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

It would be ironic in a way if the West's win the Derby with Maximum Security rather than the 2yo champ that's received most of the press and who also has the top Derby trainer.

Re: Santa Anita Derby

It seems that Baffert's top Derby horses this year, unlike usual, are not all that quick leaving the gate. He knows better than anyone how important it is to get away well in a crowded Derby field, so I'll be surprised if he doesn't focus on this heavily in the coming days/weeks.

Re: Santa Anita Derby

Hey, according to this news release ( https://www.kentuckyderby.com/uploads/wysiwyg/assets/uploads/20190407_KDFW_Pool_4_Recap.pdf ), Roadster is the highest-price favorite in the final future pool since... 2004! In retrospect, the fact that we have a six-way battle for favoritism, vs. all others be...

Re: 2019 Three-Year-Olds

This should really set up Roadster and Game Winner well for the KD given the deeper, slower surface today at SA. GW was coming back on 3 weeks rest and will now have 4 weeks until the big race, where he should be super fit. We'll see how the Arkansas Derby turns out... if it goes according to form, ...

Re: 2019 Three-Year-Olds

Regarding Vekoma's HORRIBLE action... he's by Candy Ride as is Game Winner, who although I've liked since early in his career, his front action isn't the best either. Definitely not as bad as Vekoma's, but it must be a "Candy Ride thing". Candy Ride is one of my all-time favs, and as I recall his (f...

Re: The Florida Derby

Hidden Scroll is overrated. He has one nice win over a sloppy track. Nothing else.
I think he’s not a 2-turn horse and has learning to do.
Agreed - don't believe he's a two-turn horse.

The charts for the two Rebels, including the final times, were nearly identical. The closing fractions were also very good and nearly identical in both races.

Re: The Rebel Parts I and II

Game Winner is one "game" horse. I like his pedigree better than Improbable's for the classic distances, but both were coming in off of layoffs and likely needed the race(s), especially Game Winner. I thought I heard a TVG commentator mention something about Baffert possibly training one or both hor...

Re: 2019 derby prep races.

Looks like Game Winner last worked on 1/9 (very fast 3F) and Baffert's horses tend to work weekly. Of course there has been inclement weather recently in SoCal, although SA had a fast track today and no work again. Hopefully all is well and if there is anything, that it's something minor.

Re: 2018 Two-year-olds

"Justify Jr.", aka Improbable, just won the Cash Call Futurity at Los Al very impressively in 1:41 flat. Looks like B2 has two outstanding, early prospects in Game Winner and Improbable for the 2019 TC should they hopefully both stay healthy.

Re: Accelerate vs Justify HOTY

Imo, HOY is not even a contest this year, and shouldn't be. While I'm glad for Sadler winning the BCC, Accelerate only ran one more race than Justify year to date, and his BSF for the BCC was the 2nd slowest in the history of the race - only BCC Drosselmeyer's figure was lower. What's more, this occ...

I get that we've been starved of TC winners but IMO just winning the three races (the last in a shady fashion) shouldn't automatically make him Horse of The Year.
However, it's all but guaranteed that it will just as it always has going back to War Admiral.

Re: 2018 Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1) - Nov 2nd

Game Winner much the best considering his wide trip -- a very impressive performance! Just to add... It's great to see a BC Juvy winner that has the physical makeup, and especially the pedigree, to excel at the classic distances next year. Hopefully this soon-to-be 2yo champion stays healthy going ...

Re: 2018 Two-year-olds

Love Game Winner's pedigree--Candy Ride x an A.P. Indy mare, who is out of Fleet Indian IIRC. Very nice effort. Dittos on GW's pedigree - it's outstanding. I heard BB on Byk's radio show mention that if you happen to get a good Candy Ride, that they can be REALLY good. Pedigree aside, something tha...
