Re: 2020 Matings

I hope they'll send her to a PotN son. I am so sad we will never get a PotN x Beholder foal, as I recall the nick with PotN had a rather high rating... and now with Empire Maker also gone. American Pharoah? I hope they also try RtR again with him and they also do that with Stellar Wind. I would sel...

Re: Santa Anita to close ...

I'm not going to say that actual racing really IS "essential," but I don't see how it necessarily increases the risks inherent in having a bunch of animals stabled together and needing regular care . I'm pretty sure that whoever that bureaucrat was has been drinking the PETA Kool-Aid. The risk is c...

There are now more cases in the US than there were in China.

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

I see so many optimists using China's wrangling of the disease in about 2 months as an indicator... Not factoring the notion western societies are much more individualistic as a whole, and the US in particular has to deal with American exceptionalism. Government response notwithstanding, even here i...

I think people are just surprised Baffert would accept.

Though methinks he's taking a calculated risk. Whether the pay off is worth it, I don't know, but we will see.

Re: The Saudi cup

I am probably speaking way out of turn here as I really am not particularly knowledgeable about drug testing, but it was once explained to me that certain drugs were good masking agents because of their "peak"profile being very similar to illicit drugs, which is why I believe Gastroguard was banned...

As a side note I wouldn't be surprised if cardiac related issues from unsupervised substances arose where they wouldn't be otherwise expected. When I was on a medication that obliterated my cardio so many GP's first instincts were "no it's not this, hormonal medication wouldn't cause palpitations" (...

Re: FBI raid at Calder

Ah I forgot all about Firenze Fire, the surprising 6-1 blowout winner of the Dwyer. Mendelssohn is playing his violin as he horse laughs. I'm sick for Firenze Fire but furious for Mendelssohn... the final time was a new record, and he had to chase a juiced up Pony only to have his heart broken. I'm...

Re: 2020 Three-Year-Olds

I am actually way more excited about the three-year-old fillies this Saturday on account of the Davona Dale (G2), which features: Tonalist's Shape -- undefeated in 4 starts Spice Is Nice -- Million-dollar yearling who won her debut by 12 Bayerness -- undefeated in 2 starts Nikki and Papa -- solid t...

Re: 2020 Fountain of Youth

As a native French speaker, it's bugging me (and I had to go check on Equibase to make sure the horse's actual name used the proper spelling): It's Ete Indi e n not Ete Indi a n (and should in fact be Été Indien but since the JC and accents etc etc ) And it means Indian Summer jfwiw - as a mat...

Re: Kitten's Joy's Progeny

Y'all ever think of the nice horses we would've missed out on if Kitten's Joy had belonged to anyone else? I mean this can be said about a lot of horses. What would have happened in Northern Dancer wasn't a RNA as a yearling? What if Halo hadn't been rejected from his sale to France for being a cri...

Having watched my favourites two years in a row get mugged due to that auxiliary gate I'm traumatised and will welcome the lack of PTSD this year
