Re: Your Favorite Santa Anita Derby

Sunday Silence and A.P Indy Houston was favored because Lukas had gushed about him for months, calling him the best and smartest horse he'd ever trained. He won huge in the Bay Shore after a long layoff. For whatever reason I wasn't fully a believer. But as soon as I saw Sunday Silence I became a bi...

Re: Santa Anita to close ...

This is not about PETA or anything. This is just to prevent the virus spreading. There's no racing in the UK either and all over Europe tracks are closed. We're quite a bit ahead here and I can tell you that in the beginning those decisions change by the hour. For example restaurants: first they sa...

Re: The Florida Derby

South Florida is finally starting to wake up to reality today and ignore the ignoramuses who tried to pretend this was nothing. Emergency alerts sent to smartphones. Bars, restaurants and other entertainment venues ordered to shut down. Nightly curfews from 10 PM to 5 AM. This stuff began hitting th...

Re: Gulfstream threatens legal action if forced to shut down racing

Ohhh the choices we make when our government allows us to...... I saw WAAAAAYYYYY more people at Costco yesterday than I've seen at a racetrack in the past five years! Maybe if Gulfstream was in a proven hot-spot like New York then the government should intervene and shut it down, otherwise I'm wit...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

Coronavirus isn't something that's going to go away in 2 weeks or a month. The peak is months away and even after the peak, they'll still want to keep large gatherings down so it doesn't start another increase in infection rates. Exactly. Some sports are rescheduling under some delusion that this w...

Re: What Race Got You Into This?

I don't mind the overhead view of a start. In fact, I think it shows you just what happens when a big field breaks; some horses veer into the next horse, some throw their head up and break behind the rest, a few break fast and start trying to move over. Makes you appreciate just how tight ( and dan...

Re: What Race Got You Into This?

Great post, even though we were on opposite sides in the matter of Forward Pass vs. Dancer's Image. I nodded in agreement especially strongly on reading this: The Derby result was a disappointment but I was fascinated by the race and especially the song. I remember my mom cried during the playing o...

Re: What Race Got You Into This?

In 1968 I was early in elementary school and really getting into sports. Basically with every sport I trace my first memories to 1968, including the Winter and Summer Olympics. My parents took the family to a Sunday brunch at Hialeah sometime during the offseason. That was probably summer 1967. I re...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

Unless a vaccine is quickly found. I should have offered that qualifier. They are pushing for one at frantic pace. I read that the first experimental injections were done today. But it can take up to 18 months to make sure the vaccine is successful and without serious side effects.

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

Nobody is going to care about a sporting event given where the country will be in early May. It is still mind boggling that people don't grasp the scope of this. It's going to be a financial collapse with difficulty finding any industry had hasn't been severely impacted. That Utah basketball player ...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

This is going to seem inconsequential within a few weeks, if not sooner. People are still underestimating the scope of this. We were very late to take proactive steps. The actual number of cases is likely dozens of times the official count, according to many experts. By sometime in April it could ea...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

The NBA canceled the remainder of its season after a player tested positive. Naturally it was a genius player who was so dismissive of the virus he intentionally rubbed his hands all over reporter microphones a few days before testing positive. This thing is going to soar. I don't see how the Derby ...

Re: When will the racing media turn on Baffert like cycling media did on Armstrong

What were the odds on no Triple Crown winner for 37 years? Are we going to investigate that? Heck just multiply the gate odds of all those horses from 1979 until American Pharoah that went into the Belmont with the Triple Crown on the line and failed. You'll have close to .001 theoretical odds right...

Re: Jason Servos, Navarro, 27 others investigated

I was just trying to point out that indictments are not necessarily factual. If they were, we'd have a new president. That's hilarious. Not every person being investigated gets to hire his own lookaway attorney general. Servis isn't going to be able to intimidate countless people not to testify. Ha...

Here are the videos of King Guillermo's races prior to the Tampa Bay Derby. First the maiden special weights race on November 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg7-t5jO4Rk Here's the Pulpit Stakes on November 30. Fractions were quicker than Tampa Bay. King Guillermo moved early then got run down: h...

Re: Tampa Bay Derby

I guess they dismissed him because he'd been running on turf. Otherwise hard to figure those odds. He won the maiden special weight race at Gulfstream the same way. Place horse wasn't even within the screen coming home. Then the Pulpit Stakes he ran big and had the lead in mid stretch before being r...

Re: 2020 Fountain of Youth

Classic wire to wire at Gulfstream. I love speed. Once that horse cleared it was over. You could see the horse was perky and the jockey looking around. This reminded me of Hofburg two years ago, also from an outside post and also on Fountain of Youth day but that was not in the race itself. One race...

Re: The Saudi cup

The place horse did nothing. Typical slob change that is overstated by sucker fans. Maximum Security meanwhile had to try to win that race 5 different times. It was the way Sunday Silence ran down the stretch in the 1989 Derby except Maximum Security had to do it. Still tragic that he is not a Kentu...

Re: Baltimore vs. Stronach Group

Bravo. Multipurpose and mostly temporary is extremely sensible. Most sensible of all is keeping the Preakness away from Laurel. That overwhelmed any other variable. If you go to Laurel you might as well run the race in the parking lot of some factory warehouse. At least that way there would be some ...

Re: 2019 Breeders Cup Classic and Watch

McKinzie will have a new rider in the Breeders' Cup Classic on Nov. 2 at Santa Anita. Trainer Bob Baffert on Tuesday said that he has decided to make a switch from Mike Smith, who has ridden McKinzie in all 13 of his career starts. This follows a second-place finish as the odds-on favorite in the A...
