Re: Horse Racing is now officially a joke

Racing may accelerate it a bit but you get close to horses in any context (outside of maybe Breyers) you risk having your heart broken. That's usually in between some of the most fun times you'll ever have.

Re: Appeal denied

I think Peter Fuller kept the 1968 Derby in the courts for over 10 years. Didn't change the outcome though this dq was for a different reason.

Re: Horse Racing is now officially a joke

Didn't see TVG but interested to see their takes. I think that Carruthers' quotes are interesting but wonder if the results sunk his Pick Whatever. 20 horses indicates that there's gonna be bumping, especially at the first turn. Also in longer races it seems like less is called early in the race bec...

Re: Horse Racing is now officially a joke

Wouldn't mind them shrinking the field a little though I'm not sure that would completely eliminate the problem. Some of the roughest-run races I've seen were 6-7 horse fields. I think a more even application of the rules, which is easier said than done, is what is needed.

Re: 2019 Triple Crown

So, hypothetically what would happen if Country House somehow manages to win the Preakness in Belmont? Besides hell freezing over and pigs sprouting wings. Glorious anarchy! Now that we've had one satisfying TC winner and one controversial one, I'm all-in on Team Chaos. I want them to dead heat in ...

Re: Horse Racing is now officially a joke

I left horse racing, never to return, when I was 11 and Majestic Prince was robbed of a Belmont win. Since then, I estimate that I've vowed never to return approximately 300 to 400 times. Based on historical precedent, I'm guessing that my outrage over the Derby will last about two weeks. (I'm stil...

Re: 2019 Kentucky Derby

Do you guys think this DQ stands if a bigger named trainer trained Maximum Security? I support this DQ but am wondering anyway. i'd be hard pressed to imagine baffert being DQ'd. i like to think he would, but i also like to think i'll win the lottery and that hasn't worked out so far. My nomination...

Re: Horse Racing is now officially a joke

Wow again! Interesting that people are "done" over MS dq but not when 23 die at SA, 7 of Baffert's od on thyroid meds, etc. Just wow... Don't know MS connections but feel sorry for them. Still think Mott's classy. Think horse racing would have been more of a joke if the dq doesn't happen, a la Bayer...

Re: 2019 Kentucky Derby

Wow! Interesting read. I watched the race then had to run an errand. Was a little surprised that the dq happened but I think it was the right call. I kept saying they would look at it but thought it would stand since CH wasn't the one who almost fell. Stupid, I know. Also I lost money too but it hap...

Re: Arkansas Derby G1 Million Dollars

Would love to see Mandella or Mott win one, for many reasons. Mandella's press conference would be hilarious, since he likes to tell you ,deadpan serious, how incompetent he is. Both he and Mott would probably be so excited it would be one for the ages.

Re: Santa Anita 2019

I just feel that I am living in Stupidland. As I posted earlier the SA track was fine all through November. Winter, they had problems. What had changed? RAIN! Much more than this track had ever received since rebuilt. I will readily agree that the constant sealing probably detrimentally affected th...

.....and I guess it's important to mention for the 117th time that we're fighting a Public Perception Problem first and foremost. It really isn't about if the whip hurts the horse or not, it's about the perception of the jockey and the visible whipping. Madeline A. emphasized the issue by commentin...

CHRB takes first step toward banning whip use in California The California Horse Racing Board voted on Thursday to ban jockeys from using whips to urge their mounts, the first stage of a process that will take several months and fundamentally change the way races are ridden. https://www.drf.co...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

I keep thinking that Graham Motion would make a great racing czar though I'd hate to have his trainees lose him. That being said, his letter is spot-on. I wonder if TSG consulted anyone like Motion, in the business but committed to making it better, safer and more humane for all concerned or just di...
