Re: Santa Anita to close ...

It's not like SA was the only track to close. Coastal cities are getting slammed first, and all it will take is one positive to close other tracks. I would be surprised if there's racing anywhere a month from now. In related news, Suffolk Downs has been turned into a first-responders-only testing f...

Re: The Florida Derby

I'm not so concerned about not being able to watch live racing; I'm worried about the horses. Thousands of racehorses - TBs, QHs, SBs - across the country will no longer be able to earn a living. The stables may stay open, with backside workers still caring for their horses, but how many will be ab...

Re: The Florida Derby

I'm going to try to watch all the coverage available to me on FS1 and/or NBCSN tomorrow...because it's looking like this will be the last live racing we get to see for a long time. :( Santa Anita pulled the plug today. I'd imagine Golden Gate will quickly follow. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gulf...

Re: The Florida Derby

Hoping this isn't the last we see of racing for awhile. Charles Town is in total lockdown now, no racing, horses staying in their stalls. How long do our remaining racing states hold out?

Re: Dubai World Cup canceled

Feedback so far from the trainers is they are NOT happy..can't say I blame them..they were given 48 hours to make arrangements for flights home(not an easy task given the slim pickings of international flights currently) and have been told they must leave the horses behind until they ship home Apri...

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

Can't help but notice how popular it is among the folks at Camarero to run horses every week or every other week even though they never finish better than sixth. Why? I see the same sort of thing when looking through the South American past performances that show up in the Daily Racing Program occa...

Re: Dubai World Cup to be held behind closed doors

Trainer Aidan O'Brien has withdrawn his horses from consideration for the Dubai World Cup card on March 28... Well, that takes a lot of luster out of that night. :( I feel it's not going to happen at all. No one will ship in, including owners, trainers, jockeys and grooms. The locals will start tes...

Re: Kentucky Derby and the Coronavirus

Would seem to be only a matter of days, weeks at most, before a positive test turns up at all remaining operating tracks. It's inevitable, really. May be time to shut down horse racing the way all other sports have been shut down and sit, wait, and hope. Got to worry about what will happen to the ho...

Will CD need the fancy new 20 stall starting gate this year?
40, to ensure proper separation between jockeys.

Re: What Race Got You Into This?

Great post, even though we were on opposite sides in the matter of Forward Pass vs. Dancer's Image. I nodded in agreement especially strongly on reading this: The Derby result was a disappointment but I was fascinated by the race and especially the song. I remember my mom cried during the playing of...

Keeneland cancels the entire spring meet
Will this start the dominoes falling, from racing continuing behind closed doors to racing shutting down as all the other sports have?

Re: What Race Got You Into This?

The 1968 Kentucky Derby! I was 13 and just becoming a fan of sports other than baseball and this was a race that dominated headlines in Boston, especially, for weeks. Reading about the local horse (Dancer's Image) winning, then the Bute controversy and eventual stripping of his victory, actually mad...

The two doctors you speak of are either made up or idiots. Half of survivors DO NOT have lung scarring.
Well, of course. The other half DO.

Don't bet offshore. It hurts the industry. What state are you in?
He/she didn't answer, but Utah or Hawaii would be a good guess, no legal betting on anything in either one, AFAIK.

While it's true Max is probably not the first Eclipse winner to have been doped, and he unfortunately probably won't be the last, you gotta start somewhere.

AFAIK he's the first to be named in a big scandal.
Equine, yes. But Mike Gill took home an Eclipse for top owner.

Re: Jockey/Trainer News - 2018

Still in the saddle at 67? Dang. I've never heard of Rillito Park... Associated Press is reporting his age as 66. Rillito's been around for many years, but its future has been uncertain recently. A year or so ago, a plan was afoot to tear it down and build youth soccer fields on the land, but the t...

Re: 2020 Hall of Fame Nominees

I won't be voting for Rags to Riches ever. It's the Hall of Fame. She shouldn't even be a nominee in my opinion. I guess different strokes for different folks. You don’t think she was that good? I mean, what are the standards? If we’re talking longevity, AP Indy shouldn’t be in the HoF...and I ador...

Re: 2020 Hall of Fame Nominees

Only one jockey nominee now that Craig Perret got in on his 13th try last year? What happens next year if Corey gets in? And there is a possibility no jockey will be inducted this year, right? Nakatani still has to appear on a certain minimum number of ballots?

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

I wonder what's up with that claim of 11-y-o Jonny's Choice. Owner/trainer Beverly J. Hamilton put in the claim at Turf Paradise about a week ago, yet Equibase shows her last sending out a starter in 2018 at Portland Meadows. Strange that she'd be claiming such a horse to restart her racing career....
