Doesn't he usually go to Florida in the winter? I don't recall him ever stabling horses in Southern California, so if he chooses Hot Springs over Hallandale, it won't matter in Arcadia.

By the In Reality stallion Judge Smells, sire of quite a few other "Judges" as well as several that play on his "surname": Sniffed, Smells and Bells, Scent of Honey and Cigar Smoke.

Frank ought to just rebrand SA as Grant's Pass South. Maybe he can attract Michael Wrona back!

Two jockeys have been sanctioned over issues with doping tests, while one has a handed a possible ban for failing to submit to a test, the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board have confirmed. Jockey David Simmonson has ...

@maggimoss Interesting chart from Churchill today- owner/trainer showing no starts on equibase claims 3 filly’s - 40,000 out of one race! Wishing them luck! https://twitter.com/maggimoss/status/1192936845346312192 One of the Google search results for the name shows ties to both Wesley Ward and Cool...

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?
The real problem horse racing has as a niche sport that boxing and baseball don't is that its gut-level appeal from the outset was as a vehicle for gambling. All those hatted gentlemen of the Greatest Generation and before you see packing the apron in old black-and-whites were at the track to bet. S...

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?
I think boxing took a similar turn to racing and it's arguably more brutal. Yet that's on the upswing. And not too long ago, two fighters died of brain injuries after matches -- one in Argentina, the other here in the U.S. Yet the sport never comes close to being banned. In fact, the trend in amate...

Anyone here been following twitter.com/CovfefeHorse? Funny stuff posted by Brad Cox's team, reminds me a lot of Giant Oak's posts here back in the day.

Did any of these apply to Mongolian Groom, a homebred by (relatively speaking) nothing out of nothing?Ridan_Remembered wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2019 9:57 am
Drugs; steroids; stuff done to yearlings to prime them for sales; excessive inbreeding; breeding only for the sales fashion of the day

If anything at all happens next Friday and Saturday, look for the California Legislature to do to horse racing what so many states have done to dog racing. Mob rule is taking over.

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?
I wonder if Facebook and other social media options have pulled those regulars away from this old-style website forum. That seems to have been the fate of many discussion boards like this, which have gone from thriving to nearly dead in just a couple of years or less.

When I read the article - I assumed the same thing- that’s there’s nothing really criminal about it. But going to the actual PETA article, it seems there’s some confusion as to HOW she actually died. The story is she may not have broken down, but that she hit her head on a wall, then still raced, “...

Not much from Mine That Bird's little half-brother at Woodbine today. He turned out to be the weaker half of Casse's uncoupled entry, finishing sixth. The other half won -- Champit (Tonalist-Giulietta, by Dunkirk).

Re: Naming Question - Very Close names ?
Come to think of it, perhaps the Jockey Club let Havre De Grace go BECAUSE the original's name was spelled wrong! In which case, we may yet get a proper Pharaoh! My purely-speculative take on this: Because the FIRST syllable is pronounced very differently - Har-ve and not Hav-re - they let it go. "...

Re: Naming Question - Very Close names ?
Harve De Grace (2000 model) and Havre De Grace (2007 model) I still don't understand how two names soooooo similar get the okay. It isn't as though the 2000 was long gone by the time the newer Grace was named. In 2007, the year Grace II was foaled the 2000 model was giving birth to Concord Point. I...
