Re: Kentucky Derby Top 5

That's fair but they are not a silent organization. They have tremendous sway and use social media in ways racing does not. If racing does comply with measures going forward I worry what it'll mean. Do you really think racing could be fully banned? It accounts for such a tremendous amount of money ...

Re: Portland Meadows - R.I.P.

As I prepare for a final goodbye to Suffolk Downs -- final live card on June 30, it was announced last week -- I say farewell to Portland Meadows. I doubt the Oregon fair circuit can survive without a full-time track, and the Oregon breeding industry probably breathes its last, too. I, too, could n...

Re: Let It Ride

I don't know if any of you remember the movie Let It Ride with Richard Dreyfuss. I live in upstate New York and this movie is on WBPN Channel 14 at 8 p.m. (Binghamton Channel). I haven't seen this movie in years but it is so funny. Hope some of you get a chance to watch it. It is to racing what "Sl...

Re: Santa Anita 2019

Jeremy Balan Verified account@BH_JBalan 4m4 minutes ago Santa Anita just sent out a press release about closing the track for racing. Here it is, in its entirety. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D09HRCMV4AADId0.jpg "Will be rescheduled"? Not "relocated" or "may be rescheduled" or "we hope"? What if the...

Good old Slim Shadey (GB) ran his 79th race today at Gulfstream and finished second.

He’s in the Mike Maker barn.
Remember when everyone here was so afraid that David Jacobson was going to run him into the ground?

Re: 2019 Hall of Fame Finalists

So does Perret get into the HOF in a walkover or can their be an HOF class with no jockeys? He and Whiteley have been on the ballot year after year after year since God knows when. Is there a maximum at which time they'll be dropped from future consideration? If I had a ballot, there'd be only two n...

Re: The WAR HORSE Chronicles

Wait, so thoroughbreds can run in QH and TB races? Yes, the races are usually 870 yards. Los Alamitos cards them quite often and has for years. One of my OTTB’s, Anniversary Year, ran in a couple of them in the early 2000’s. Turf Paradise occasionally cards races at 1,000 yards for "thoroughbreds, ...

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

I understand the sentiment but the names "Touched By Autism", "Myostis Mystique", etc just don't sound right to me. I don't care for breeders who saddle all their horses with similar names. There are bunches of horses named Starship this and Kitten that in the entries. Not as bad as harness racing'...

Re: Horrible Names For Horses

I just found this poor horse's name - she is running at the FG today - 4 year old filly with the name of myositis mystique. Myositis is an inflammation of muscle tissue who the hell names their horse after a disease??? As I live and breathe-- i just don't understand how some owners are so out of it...

Standardbred war horse Foiled Again , whom I am running out of superlatives for, won the penultimate race of his career Saturday night at Mohawk Park. That's his 11th win of the year, 109th overall. http://ustrottingnews.com/foiled-again-wins-in-canadian-farewell/ Replay here (6th race on the 22nd)...

Re: 2019 Graded Stakes

Question for those, like me, who were horse racing fans in the 60-70s before the graded stakes system was implemented....was there something wrong with our sport back then that got corrected? 1. Europe did it. 2. Apparently American breeders are too stupid to be able to figure out a horse's quality...

Re: 2019 Graded Stakes

The Breeding Industry no doubt likes using Graded Stakes races as a foundation for their industry, but what's the real downside to eliminating a whole bunch of 'em? If the breeding industry, already producing fewer foals every year, uses graded stakes as a foundation, will eliminating a bunch of th...

Meeting is next week
Should have realized that, seeing as how the story was published on Thursday. OK, thanks for the clarification on that. But I'm still curious as to what aspect of the original story was inaccurate. I guess we'll just have to wait for the outcome of the meeting.

Re: Saratoga Good Idea!?

I hope this is a one year exception to allow the hockey rink to be built. While Mondays are quiet, it is the one day of the week that allows leisurely activities like multiple trips to the paddock, or a trip to the rail to watch a race. It was an inaccurate report regardless. Meaning that it wasn't...

Re: Saratoga Good Idea!?

Interested in this as well. It looks like construction of hockey arena at Belmont Park (?) is primary reason. As someone who's attended in the past, I may consider a shorter stay there ($) but not sure. I like it. A five-day week will help with field size, and taking some of Belmont's July days is ...
