The Autumn Sun (Redoute's Choice x Azmiyna, by Galileo)

The Galileo force from his dam side appears to be strong in this one. ;)

Re: New Stallions of 2020

"i can guarantee it, no one remembers him for that reason...."

I'm pretty sure most members of this forum (to say nothing of actual breeders) remember his two World Cup wins quite well, even if you don't. :P

Re: Stallion News

It's possible that all the horse welfare issues that have seemed to plague Louisiana in recent years have made some folks view LA as a step below Korea when it comes to stallion destinations.

Re: Retirements 2019

If Reg finds himself unable to care for Hartnell in the future, I hope there's an Aussie version of Old Friends to take in that noble gelding . After facing off against great horses from Black Caviar to Winx, he really deserves it.

Re: Breeders cup mum on Mongolian groom

IMHO, racing does a poor job of communicating with the general public, which seems to have minimal knowledge when it comes to horses. I've read complaints about how long it took ( two hours, IIRC ) the BC to pass along the sad news that MG had been euthanized, as though Santa Anita/BC was covering i...

Re: Vox populi voting open

I voted for Belvoir Bay. She not only beat the boys in the BC Turf Sprint, she set a new track record doing it.
Most of all, she is a survivor of the tragic San Luis Rey fire, found after being lost for two days. This is the sort of fairy tale outcome that we hardly ever get to enjoy.

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

I know more than one parent who has decided that their children will NOT be playing on a school football team.
If that is widespread and growing, the NFL could possibly find itself withering from its roots.

Thank you for that bit of encouraging news. Hopefully, the rule changes don't "die in committee."

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

I'm under the impression that many horses are cued by specific whip taps to change leads, which is needed during a race. Letting uninformed elements decide on things like Lasix and crop use is not going to make the horses safer. I feel like those are visible red herrings that TSG has thrown out to k...

Re: 2019 Eclipse Awards-Predictions?

FWIW, Paulick's latest poll asks: "If voting were today, who would get your vote for Horse of the Year?"
The results so far have Bricks and Mortar far ahead of the other candidates; 68.03% to Mitole's 13.56%, Vino Rosso's 10.85% and Midnight Bisou's 7.56%.

When does the Cup go off? Since I can no longer get TVG, I'm going to have to be satisfied with reading about it. :(

I read elsewhere that the horse is fine. Jock pulled up when he felt the stride was off, but it turned out that the horse had only thrown a shoe.

Climate change!?
I've read a lot of theories trying to explain Santa Anita's issues, but that is a new one for me.

That seems to be a good draw for Constantinople, and for Cross Counter, as well.

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

It would appear that, in an effort to avoid having the surface be too hard and concussive, they may have over-corrected and made the track too deep. Fatigue can bring about injuries as well, just different maybe than impact damage. :(

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

IMHO, an injury like that could have just as easily happened at Churchill or Aqueduct. Blaming the BC for not moving the meet isn't constructive, especially when you can not guarantee a breakdown wouldn't have occurred at a different track.

Re: Breeders Cup Discussion?

NBC finally addressed the fact that Mongolian Groom broke down in the stretch, rear hind broken, it looked like. :(
Track vet said he loaded on the horse ambulance and been taken to the on-grounds equine hospital.

If you turn a stallion loose in a muddy field, you gotta expect him to come back covered in dirt from head to hoof.
