Re: PETA

IMHO, those are separate issues. I don't think that the confinement of a circus life is good for such a large, social animal as an elephant. And putting a cetacean, even more far-ranging, intelligent and social, in a little concrete prison cell/pool is ever humane. I certainly don't agree with PETA'...

I didn't know that she wasn't just suffering from a terrible case of colic, but from malignant tumors in her abdomen.
Condolences to her connections for the loss of their lovely filly.

Re: Racing in Japan

If he's headed out to his first race already wearing a red warning ribbon on his tail, that tells me that his bad behavior isn't a new thing for him. Which also tells me that his connections know he's a testosterone-brained butthead, but are putting up with it.
Not cool.

Re: Racing in Japan

He'd have an apt. lined up for tomorrow to be minus two things if I owned that dangerous little sh*t.... I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that. With all due respect to Japanese racing, I've seen behavior from some of their racehorses that would not be tolerated elsewhere. Gold Ship's a...

Re: Haskell Day

I know Max stayed up but, if I were a steward, I'd want to have a long conversation with Saez. That pinhead seems to think that cutting off his competition is the right way to win a race, no matter how reckless it is.

Re: Haskell Day

Thanks to Bloodhorse, I've been able to see the replays for the Molly Pitcher, Oceanport, Monmouth Cup and Del Mar's San Diego.
Short fields everywhere, although War Story and Bal Harbour battling head-to-head down to the wire in the Monmouth Cup made for a pretty exciting finish.

I bet some of the trainers back east are wishing they were out here instead of sweltering at The Steambath...I mean The Spa. :P ;)

Re: Saratoga 2019

They plan to start the card at noon, but if the heat around 3-4 (when it's supposed to be the worst) becomes too dangerous, they have the freedom to take a break. Run the Haskell at 8, if they have to.

That's tough news, ElP.
I'll be hoping that your docs are the best and that you do have a 'fine' outcome.
Good luck.

Re: Del Mar Summer 2019

I was sitting in a doctor's waiting room late this morning, and the office TV had the news on. So I got to hear the news about the two horses in the middle of a bunch of people...who probably had no idea why I suddenly exclaimed, "Aw crap!" :(

Maybe? Perhaps there is some sort of memorial/celebration of Rick Violette, and that's what prompted the NY guys to share their memories?
Although a lot of them had to do with arguments...and of becoming friends after a big argument with the man. ;)
