Re: The Pennsylvania Derby Saturday

severe case of colic and a displacement of the large colon........sounds pretty serious. I'm glad they got him to veterinarian, this can kill a horse.

He has always seemed like a rather fragile one. Of course, a lot of them are.

Baffert could go to Keeneland and buy horses and he and Jill race them, but he’s too smart for that.

Re: Belmont

I'm "afraid" to look at Belmont. After how I was cluelss for the entire Sar meet......I played on paper and still couldn't hit side of a barn.
It was almost astonishing how I couldn't hit ANY winners practically. I'm not that good to begin with, but I'm not as bad as my ROI for that meet.

Omaha Beach sidelined again with a virus. Will miss Shared Belief stakes. Wonder if better just to give him the rest of the year off at this point and try again next year. WHy I'm glad, despite the criticism he got from some people, that Mott let Country House sit out the year.....horse did not loo...

very happy to hear that Julien Leparoux will ride Omaha Beach in the Ack Ack on the 28th - a very sweet horse gets a very sweet rider - Julien is one of the sweetest nicest riders out there - horse and rider will make a lovely team - cannot wait to see Omaha on the track again - wishing them both t...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Grant me one wish......and that would be that folks would give up on the knee jerk reaction to every problem that faces the industry, that being a National Governing body would prevent/resolve important issues. Horse racing ain't like the NFL or MLB or the UCI and any comparisons/wish lists are pie...

Saudi Arabia has some ugly human rights issues For sure. I don't like them either. But RIght now, some some people might think that about us, due to the immigration stuff they hear about and how children are being treated in detention centers. Have you volunteered in any safe houses for women who a...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

I hope Baffert is hiring a good PR firm. It doesn’t matter how innocent he is. His reputation could take a serious hit with things like this. He’s the face of the sport and already I’ve had a few non-racing fan acquaintances ask me about this. So you're saying Baffert should use PR (otherwise known...

If Joe Drape wants to go after Baffert like the Cycling Council did Lance Armstrong, more power to him. . Wow, Curtis ........ I'm amazed that you see Joe Drape as the person who wants to "go after" Baffert. :o All he did was report on a story that was given to him. That is what reporters do. Surel...

Anyone have articles ---- its certainly been under-reported

I think Hartnell got 4th?

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

If I’m not mistaken, Baffert called for the three tracks to release Justify’s test results in his statement. No offense to anyone here, but would most even know or understand how to read test results, and all the ins and outs ....... you do realize about half-lifes of certain substances in plasma/b...

Tessa when you come back I'd like to know if the NCBI/NIH study is the same one the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities used. They put a residue limit in place of 60 nanograms per milliliter in urine to try to account for such contamination. CHRB revised their rules last fall and now...

I'm really eager to see how this develops -- what else will be revealed... there's a lot here that can't be easily explained away... And in the end, I hope it results for changes for the sport for the better. My opinion: It *won't* develop. Most of the people writing about this are either trying to...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

As expected, Joe Drape is being dragged across the coals on many racing forums.......because there isn't anyone *inside racing* who is doing any kind of true investigative reporting, so anyone outside the good ol' boys club is going to be loudly discredited.

That's the way it works, I guess?

For clarity, because I've made a lot of big statements in here, I'm a cell/molecular biologist. Pharmacology is pretty far out of my comfort zone, and I would welcome the input of any veterinarians on here who have additional perspectives on the matter. But the review discussed above is very clear ...

Re: Article in New York Times states Justify failed a drug test before the Derby

Iit's surprising how easily they can give false drug test readings. If it's so common and not a big deal, then why did the CHRB engage in a cover up? They could have just explained this at the time, made the same explanations. Legally they have violated the Brown Act. The AG will be getting letters.
