Bellafina showed them whose boss in the Santa Ynez. Man, she is big.

Is Bellafina just an early bloomer or is she going to be close to Zenyatta-sized?

Get out your tape measure.
Size doesn't make much difference.

What do you mean?

I was just asking if Bellafina is going to be a larger-than-average mare (like Zenyatta) or if she was just an early bloomer and is therefore bigger than most of her class.

I’ve heard she’s somewhere around 17h so that already makes her bigger than average. Whether she will get any bigger or not is unknown. I think what El Prado meant was there being no correlation between size and racing prowess. I don’t know how far you go back but years ago there was a mare named Brown Bess who could have walked under Zenyatta. For a year, Brown Bess was just as effective, albeit on turf. I think what you wondered was if Bellafina is big. She is.

At her age, she's still growing. Horses are still maturing till about 5 years. She may still get taller, it depends on her family's history and sire's family's history and luck as far as what she eats when. She may have hit her final height and now be maturing in muscle mass or skeletal mass.

Yes and no. I knew Bellafina was big, but I was wondering if she was just big for her age (and the other fillies her age would catch up to her and she would be regarded as average sized afterwards, think being like 5'9" in 6th grade) or if she was bigger than average in general. Now that I know she's around 17h already that means the latter.

Late Night Pow Wow just won her 8th race in a row, the What a Summer Stakes at Laurel Park. It's her fourth stakes win in a row.

The 4 y/o daughter of Fiber Sonde now has a record of 11: 10-1-0.
