He's a son of Tapit and Ponche de Leona, which makes him a half to Mucho Macho Man. The tall grey missed the break and trailed the field by many lengths. But he had nine furlongs to work with and he caught the field, steadily passing horses. He went into the home turn really wide and wandered into the middle of the track, but still managed to gain on the leader. Only lost to Biblical, who had a good trip, by what looked like a couple of lengths.
Both Tapits look like they have promise, but I can understand why Todd debuted Marconi at nine furlongs. Once he gets past his wandering-all-over-the-place greenness, this is a colt who looks like he will relish classic distances.
