Seems more appropriate to put this here rather than in the War Horses thread. May they RIP.

Two-year-old Cape Blanco filly Galilianco fell on the gallop out after winning the 7th at Keeneland, and was euthanized due to unspecified injuries. She had just run away with the 7 furlong MSW on the dirt, winning in dominating fashion. And then...gone.
Another horse was not able to avoid her and fell over the fallen filly. That horse was able to walk on to the ambulance and both jocks appear OK.
I feel like the gallop out can be one of the most dangerous times for a horse. Tired? Not focusing as much due to fatigue? Off balance while trying to decelerate? I don't know, but it just seems so wrong for a youngster to win so well and then be injured when the race is over. :(

I still remember her overwhelming Distaff win like it was yesterday. She was very special, and I think under-rated.

I agree. There had been so many fabulous Phipps fillies that by the time she came along, we took her for granted.

Maybe some did. She would make it in my top 10, maybe top 5 favorites that I saw race. I absolutely loved her.

Mike Smith has had quite a history riding some damn good fillies and mares. It seems like whenever he's asked about 'the best,' Inside Information is always on that list.

Sad day for our horse friends.

CTA and his breeder tried so hard to get this stakes winner retired. It can't happen until their PR connections give them up. Such a tough job has gotten even tougher since the hurricane.

We @CaribbeanOTTB r gutted 2 hear UNSTOPPABLE U (8y KY-bred G, Belmont S runner, Maxxam Gold Cup winner), euthanized this am due 2 founder.

Shelley Blodgett‏ @ShelleyBlodgett
Our deepest condolences 2 UU’s breeder, Shawn Mojallali, who wanted 2 give UU a forever home. We wish we could have gotten him there.

He developed severe laminitis in hind and vet determined he was beyond helping & suffering. They humanely euthanized him this morning.

Kelley visited UU often since Nov & always offered 2 retire him. His breeder called me often as he was eager to have him home. We failed.

Kelley’s crushed. She visited UU 20+ times since Nov 2016 & tried really hard 2 convince them 2 retire bc declining racing & health issues.

(UU's PR trainer is the father of his last mainland trainer at Finger Lakes.)
