Seems more appropriate to put this here rather than in the War Horses thread. May they RIP.

Two-year-old Cape Blanco filly Galilianco fell on the gallop out after winning the 7th at Keeneland, and was euthanized due to unspecified injuries. She had just run away with the 7 furlong MSW on the dirt, winning in dominating fashion. And then...gone.
Another horse was not able to avoid her and fell over the fallen filly. That horse was able to walk on to the ambulance and both jocks appear OK.
I feel like the gallop out can be one of the most dangerous times for a horse. Tired? Not focusing as much due to fatigue? Off balance while trying to decelerate? I don't know, but it just seems so wrong for a youngster to win so well and then be injured when the race is over. :(

I still remember her overwhelming Distaff win like it was yesterday. She was very special, and I think under-rated.

I agree. There had been so many fabulous Phipps fillies that by the time she came along, we took her for granted.
