I didn't mean to imply that Carava doesn't love the horse; he clearly does. And he's a horseman who understands 'tough' horses and how to work around their quirks.
RFJ probably isn't really mean, but he does sound like a horse who makes you pay attention to what you're doing (and especially to what HE'S doing) when you're working with him. ;) :P

Yep, not mean or untrustworthy. I doubt even Jack would hug a horse like in that picture if that horse tended to bite, lol.

Was wondering how Two Wonders made nearly $700k while running almost exclusively in claimers, then noticed she had raced at Woodbine most of her career...that'll do it.

The golden oldies sure do like running at Presque Isle though, don't they? Seems like I see a lot of teenagers running up there after their stints on other circuits. Is the surface easier on them?

There are a few dozen 10 - 13 year old warriors that are followed closely on this thread currently racing at Camarero Race Track in Puerto Rico. With Hurricane Irma
bearing down on San Juan with predictions of 180 mph sustained winds, and torrential flooding rains, it seems that horsemen and their charges have reason to be
fearful tonight. It is difficult to imagine that any animals residing in wooden stables, stalls and barns could survive this without tremendous luck - or perhaps a better word - miracle. I'm hoping for the best possible outcome on the other side of this, and that all people and animals can somehow manage to stay safe.

Too many familiar horses running there. A friend of mine joined the West Point partnership that bought Go Black Tie at the 2013 two year old Barretts sales for $125k. Spent many a day loving on this sweet boy. The now 6 yo gelding has been racing at Camarero since April 2015, and my friend gave up on ownership. Praying for a miracle and safety for people and animals!

Oh, how awful for everyone in Irma's path. One of my all-time favorites - Magnificent Wreck - has been racing at Camarero for several years. God speed, old buddy - I hope you make it.

If anyone is so inclined...the thoroughbreds in the Caribbean could use your help. I know this group has helped get horses back to the states from Camarero, but I didn't realize US bred horses are also racing in the other islands. You can donate through PayPal to caribbeanottb@gmail.com. The Donate link is in the upper right side under the picture on their Facebook page.

Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare Inc.
We are asking desperately requesting help from all my friends and family around the world to donate to help the horses in the Caribbean, many of the TBs were bred in the States. My friend has already lost one of her horses and they need feed and medical supplies urgently. Put in notes column whether your donation is for Anguilla, St Martin, St. Thomas, Tortola or Puerto Rico. We are non profit 501c3 all donations are federal tax deductible. They need help. CTA starts with CARIBBEAN, meaning we need to help them !!!!

Really glad to see this!

TCA Provides Emergency Grant to Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare
Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) has provided a grant for emergency relief to Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare, a Puerto Rico-based nonprofit organization. The grant will be used to provide hay to the hundreds of racing and retired Thoroughbreds living on the U.S. Virgin Islands of St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix recently devastated by Hurricane Irma. The grant will originate from TCA’s Horses First Fund, a fund established by LNJ Foxwoods in 2016 to assist Thoroughbreds in need of emergency aid.

“The Horses First Fund was established for emergency situations like this as it allows us to quickly get aid to Thoroughbreds in need,” said Jaime Roth, TCA board member and managing partner of LNJ Foxwoods. “The destruction in the Caribbean is unprecedented and we hope that providing hay for racing and retired Thoroughbreds that currently reside on the islands will ease one of the challenges faced by these island communities.”

"On behalf of Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare Inc, I'd like to thank Thoroughbred Charities of America for the generous and timely support,” said Shelley Blodgett executive director of Caribbean Thoroughbred Aftercare. “This will give a lifeline while the islands work to restore the ability to receive regular shipments of feed and other necessities for the horses.”

A container ship containing nearly 500 bales of hay arrived in St. Thomas earlier this week and a portion of it was transported to Clinton Phipps Racetrack in Charlotte Amalie for distribution. The remainder will be transported to St. John and St. Croix as ports reopen.

Right now, our people in Puerto Rico don't have cellular or internet service, so our Director in the States cannot to learn how our CTA Board Members, CTA horses or Hipodromo Camarero horses are. We are working to get provisions for horses from the States. Also, we know that there is efforts to bring in emergency supplies for the people of Puerto Rico and St Croix. We will post informtion as we lean it. Pray for Puerto Rico and USVI.

Many of these thoroughbreds are US bred and raced, and familiar to us. One of the recent Washington Post's articles mentioned that the roof of the racetrack in St. Croix was blown onto the airport, complicating relief efforts. If you can spare a donation, they desperately need all the help they can get.
