Doesn't look like there was a foal, doubly sad...

I don't want to dredge up a thread that old, but Sugar Shake died in 2013.

Saw a conversation online, confirmed by someone at Old Friends, that Bluesthestandard passed away last year at his adoptive home. No idea what happened, though.

Thank you. He was from Grand Reward's first crop- and when he was right, was very right.

A bit more about his death from Old Friends today:
We were informed several weeks ago that Bluesthestandard had died in a home that also took care of Falcon Scott and Bonfante. Both Bonfante and Falcon were re-located to Old Friends in excellent condition. I'm not going to get into all the personal details that led to the separation between husband and wife. According to our agreement, they were to inform Old Friends within 24 hours if there was a problem with a horse, including death. They did not comply. We always have necropsies performed to determine the cause of death. Immediately upon hearing of his death, I called Kristen and explained what happened. It is very sad when any of our retirees pass on..I hope this helps you understand our protocols. It was one human's failure to follow these protocols that led to the misinformation. We never received his ashes. We are burying his halter.

Found this while reading about Bluesthestandard. Ea passed away on on 12/20/14. May have been posted here already but, with two letters in his name, he doesn't come up on Search...not on here nor on Equibase.

http://www.horseracingnation.com/horse/Ea#
... This dear fellow was no longer running stakes-level races. He was no longer in a sheik's string. From six-figure purses, he had eventually fallen to a $5K claimer. Didn't take much imagination to see what his future held. It was time to secure him and bring him to his next career.

Funds were committed for his claim. An agreeable licensed
trainer was found to complete the claim.

We secured him at Laurel Park in MD, after his completion of the first race
there, Friday, 12/7/2013, which he won:

Race: 1 - 12:35 PM CLAIMING $5,000 - $4,500

Purse:
$ 15,000. For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Not Won A Race Since June 7
Or Which Have Never Won Four Races. Three Year Olds, 123 Lbs.; Older, 124 Lbs.
Non-winners Of A Race At A Mile Or Over Since May 7 Allowed 2 Lbs. Such A Race
Since April 7 Allowed 4 Lbs. Claiming Price $5,000, For Each $250 To $4,500 2
lbs. (Races Where Entered For $4,000 Or Less Not Considered In Eligibility).
About
One And One Sixteenth Miles.

I appreciated that his final race was at a mid-Atlantic track that I had shipped
into many times as a racing groom years ago.

After we secured him, Ea spent time in Maryland as the state racing commission hada supposed "30 day claim rule", where a claimed horse was required to stay in the state for 30 days. Opposing that requirement was considered andabandoned.

When we had satisfied that "rule", Ea was shipped to FLTRAC near Palm Beach, FL and Barbi Moline there provided him with real R&R. I visited Ea there March 2014. He had quiet time, a large, good stall, and access to turn-out there. Great care!
Those of us involved with Ea's well-being were comfortable with his future. We'd secured him from a highly questionable future.

Ea's next road trip was north to Connecticut, where one of our group had found a very comfortable barn and an ecstatic new "human" for him.

My last visit with him was at that CT barn on Wednesday 10/1/14.

He passed on 12/20/14, and he took my heart with him.
Sweet Ea, dearest Elijah .... you will always live in my heart and in my
memory. I'm so fortunate to have known you, and I thank you for bringing me to
others who also loved you well. I treasure those compassionate, generous people.
I wish with all my heart that you could have had endless days of sun and
comfort. RIP, dear boy. I will not see the likes of one as sweet as you again.

My heart is broken, I have watched and worried about EA over the years. Wish I had known he was so close- I would have made the trip to see him.

RIP. Ea. Wish that you could have been retired sooner, and that you could have enjoyed the easy life much longer.
