What ever happened to this rising star? I knew he was injured (or something), getting time off and then he disappeared. . .

He was supposed to have minor throat surgery and miss a few weeks training, not 4 months. I haven't heard anything.

This was the last article on him about a minor throat issue, just as Flanders stated:

In mid-February, Pletcher said he was at Bridlewood at Ocala, and that they were hoping to get him back to Palm Beach Downs "in a month or so". I'm not sure whether Montauk had already had his surgery by the time of the article.

I asked on horse racing nation and someone said he just had his first work, since the injury, a few days ago at Belmont but I can't find anything. Maybe he was just galloping or something? There is no timed workout that I can find.

That family is preternaturally unlucky. Three of Marley Vale's offspring died young (2 while in training), including Montauk's dam, Indian Vale. Now Montauk.

I am just stunned. RIP, Montauk.
