What they're NOT doing is running them on hard dirt surfaces. Turf and synth may require a horse to be fit enough to handle the softer surface, but there is much less concussion on the skeletal system.

That horse looked absolutely exhausted as he was crossing the finish line too :( RIP Many Clouds.
Next to the Pegasus, this is the race I was really looking forward to watching today...really puts a damper on a great day of racing. RIP Many Clouds, you always gave your all.
Get out the hankies.

Many Clouds tribute by former work-rider wins award at US film festival
A film documenting the rise to prominence of Many Clouds, directed by the 2015 Grand National hero's former work-rider Nathan Horrocks, has won an award at the Equus Film Festival in New York.

Horrocks, a former jump jockey, was honoured with the award for best international director at a ceremony at the Helen Mills Theater for his feature titled Many Clouds: The People's Horse.

"I entered the film into the festival to share the Many Clouds story with an American audience, to show how much he was loved, but I never expected to win," said Horrocks.

"This is my tribute to him to say thank you for what he has done for me, both personally and professionally, he literally changed my life."

David Cassidy passed away at 67. I know he owned horses for awhile and was married to Meryl Tanz for awhile. I think he filed for bankruptcy in 2015 so don't know if he still had them. Liked his mare In Neon.

Hope he can rest easy.

It made me sad. This was published yesterday and gives more information about his life with horses. I hope he's surrounded by horses.

Long-Time Industry Supporter Cassidy in Critical Condition
The Thoroughbred racing world was saddened to hear that entertainer David Cassidy, a successful owner/breeder, is currently in a Florida hospital in critical condition following a reported organ failure.

Though known to the world as Keith Partridge in the ’70s television show The Partridge Family, the 67-year-old maintained a connection to racing, including donating his time to equine charitable causes, even after he had to exit the business as a Thoroughbred breeder/owner a few years ago due to financial reasons.

I was sad about him too. I had the young crush on him and gave a listen to some of his post-Partridge stuff. It wasn't bad for the most part, especially one called Lyin' to Myself. I think there's a You Tube video.

He always seemed to love his horses as the article attests.

It has been a bad year for Pulpit offspring. :( We lost Lucky Pulpit to a heart attack and Lord Nelson is still recovering from his own bout of colic/laminitis.

I did see a stud advertisement for Lord Nelson on TVG so he must be doing well.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

Judging by those dates, I have to wonder if those two mares were lost to foaling complications. :(
Also wonder why we're just now hearing about their deaths. :?

I suppose we need to be grateful we heard about them at all.

I just came aross these only yesterday, when I was checking out some of imported mares' breeding records on the Japanese studbook.
Both mares were owned by Shadai Group (Northern Farm and Shadai Farm).
It's not that they always make the headlines that pop up on the media for these death reports.
You may have to visit the studbook database regularly.
But only a very few people will do it.
And I do it only once a year......

As you may see above, it seems that both mares died of foaling complications...

Sad end for Admire Deus

Luke Sheehan @LukeDSheehan 10:30am

Admire Deus' fight for life has ended in a stunningly sad end for the Japanese import.

Days out from the Caulfield Cup, in which he was set to start as one of the leading chances, the Darren Weir-trained galloper broke down during a customary gallop at Warrnambool with a severe injury to ligaments in the lower part of his suspensory.

After multiple surgeries by the team at the Ballarat Veterinary Clinic, Admire Deus' fight for life came to an end - Weir confirming the worst on Sunday.

"Unfortunately he's lost his battle," Weir said.

Admire Deus was a multiple Group 2 winner in Japan, and was a Group 1 performer - his last run seeing him finish within two lengths of superstar Kitasan Black in the Tenno Sho (Spring) at Kyoto in April.

Co-owners Australian Bloodstock and the Ballarat Veterinary Clinic's Dr Ian Fulton were not in a position to offer further comment on Sunday.

MG1W It's Tricky (dam of the promising Enticed) apparently died this year and produced a dead foal, as well.

Aw. It's always doubly heartbreaking when both are lost. Such a good race mare and apparently becoming a fine broodmare as well.
