Jockey Kyle Frey broke his right collarbone and bruised his back when his mount, Generous George, fell in the seventh race at Golden Gate Fields on Friday. Frey was taken to Highland Hospital in Oakland, Calif., for further evaluation. Generous George sustained a fracture above the knee on his left front leg while approaching the turn in the six-furlong race and was euthanized. Majestic Cat tripped over the fallen runner, but neither he nor his rider, Pedro Flores, was injured.

Wildcat Heir was Florida's leading sire in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2014. When Wildcat Heir's first crop raced in 2009, he set a North American record by siring 39 2-year-old winners that year.

He followed that breakout year by being North America's leading second-crop sire of 2010 by money earned. In 2014 Wildcat Heir led all Florida stallions and ranked 24th in the nation with earnings of more than $6.2 million.

6yo mare Shewreckstheplace broke down at Aqueduct yesterday (1/4/15) and was euthanized (2nd start in 7 days). 14 starts in less than a year - 36 career starts and still a maiden. Linda Rice lost 3yo Golden Bay on Friday (1/2/15) at Aqueduct. It was his first start. If you are keeping count, that's 9 dead horses at Aqueduct in a months time.

RIP

Ten dead since the inner track meet began Dec 3. :(
"The bad news is that through Sunday, there have been 10 equine fatalities, three more than there were for the entire 2013-14 inner-track season. Four of this winter’s fatalities have come in the eight cards since racing returned Dec. 26 following a 10-day break."

Sad news. A sure loss to Florida breeders.
He was such a pretty colour when I saw him in October 2005 at the Breeders Cup. May he RIP.

Ugh I had read on the NY database yesterday that Shewreckstheplace would be okay. I'm assuming they'll update it eventually. Talk about the highs and lows of racing, our filly won the race. We'd run against her a few times in the past. I didn't see what happened to Shewreckstheplace until I watched the replay. Until she went wrong she looked like she was going to be a threat and the two old ladies were going to fight it out to the wire.

May she RIP

Aqueduct has now cancelled racing for the rest of the day. It's too bad that two horses had to pay (one with his life) before management finally figured out that the conditions were unsafe. :(

I am more and more coming to the realization that this Inner Track winter meet should not be run anymore. Way too many horses dying/getting hurt.

Not really sure what the answer is, but, for whatever reason- the mix or maintenance that they have been using as of late seems to be playing a factor( last few seasons). Don't know if it has changed, the weather (thawing and freezing) is the culprit. Not saying that the maintenance crew hasn't been working hard or don't know what they are doing, I'm sure they do- but all angles need to be investigated and studied. And, then of course, certain trainers perhaps running lame horses into the ground.
