Doing some work on expensive 2yo purchases and can't seem to find out what happened to this guy. Last I know he was standing stud in FL in 2016 then the trail runs cold.

Still at stud at Hartley/DeRenzo's in Florida.

if ever there were a stallion worthy of gelding...
unless he's super hot in a field other than throroughbred racing but i find that unlikely.

He really hasn't had many foals in his entire career. Only 46 total with his first crop being born in 2010.

I think its really strange that Hartley Derenzo hasn't updated their farm page in what looks like years. They have no stud fees listed, just links to bloodhorse stallion register pdfs from 2014.

Is that including Quarter Horse mares? I see he is AQHA nominated.

BH's Stallion Register is in my experience very good about being up to date.

It also has not been updated, still shows 2016 @ 5,000. Hmm wonder if he is only breeding AQHA mares. There is no death or export report on TJC so who knows.

Maybe the owners elected to fund a nice cushy Florida retirement to their failed TB stallion prospect. Or, keep him as a mascot for their The Green Monkey resort venture.

He really was handsome. You can see why he attracted the attention of the deep-pocketed buyers...although that bidding war created a crazy price scenario that I don't think we'll see again.

i know i'm not alone in saying that he absolutely endeared himself to me, from the wild bidding war, the tin foil hat talk around it, falling on his butt, HIS NAME... man. i'm actually really really sad.

I hoped his off spring would carry forward the glimpse of speed from the sales breeze. It would have legitimized his talent. It is ironic that a horse that could sell for $16m could become an underdog, but he kind of did that. Did Coolmore ever use him?

I would highly doubt that Coolmore ever used him. He wasn't really used much by anyone.
His first crop was born in 2010 and he only has 46 foals of racing age(25 of which were in his first crop), 37 starts, 30 winners and 4 Stakes Winners(9% from foals of racing age).
I'm looking at the Mares bred to foals born stats on the Jockey Club's webpage, its not always 100% right because sometimes breeders don't report their foals in times to make the list but he doesn't have many left. He isn't on the list of stallions that covered mares in 2017, only covered one mare in 2016 with no foals reported. One 2yo. So according to that, unless someone didn't report a mare/foal to the Jockey Club in time or if he covered mares in 2018, he has no more foals younger than 2.

And, had he gotten the many black type mares that American Pharoah attracted as a freshman sire, maybe he, too, would have had a better chance of passing on his speed.

Just a general question -- is there a drug testing protocol in place for these sales?

It says how much he meant to Hartley/DeRenzo that they won’t ever put another horse in his stall. My heart breaks for his owners and handlers

Well, that explains why he had not covered any mares in the past few years. Sorry to hear this news. He did, for whatever reason, capture the fancy of many folks over the years, and I was (and still am) interested to read PJMIII's reports of his few racing offspring. One that raced at Hazel Park and that I followed closely was Love Tractor, an absolute spitting image of her daddy - just beautiful.

RIP, The Green Monkey, and condolences to your connections and followers.
