Red Sox stole signs electronically from Yankees, other teams

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred confirmed Tuesday that the Boston Red Sox used electronic communication from the dugout to steal opponents' signs and relay them to Boston players during games.

The New York Yankees filed a formal complaint against the Red Sox on July 18, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney. Baseball's investigation of the Red Sox is ongoing, Manfred said from Fenway Park ahead of Boston's game against Toronto, but he expects it will be completed before the end of the regular season.

Jose Altuve hits 3 home runs in Astros' playoff opener vs. Red Sox

Jose Altuve hit three home runs in the Houston Astros' 8-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox in Game 1 of their American League Division Series on Thursday.

Altuve connected twice off Red Sox ace Chris Sale and then against reliever Austin Maddox at Minute Maid Park. All three were solo shots.

Altuve led the majors in batting this year. He is listed at just 5-foot-6.

The plate umpire in Game 4 of the NLCS said he was "dead wrong" in overturning a call that saw Cubs manager Joe Maddon ejected for the second time in the series.

With the Cubs leading 3-2 in the top of the eighth inning and a runner on first base, Dodgers outfielder Curtis Granderson swung at the seventh pitch of the at-bat from Wade Davis as the ball bounced in front of catcher Willson Contreras.

It was most fitting that the winning pitcher was the Dodgers’ longtime ace, Clayton Kershaw, who flashed his best stuff in two months and dazzled the Chicago Cubs for six innings. In years past, the Dodgers might have asked Kershaw to do more. This season, they didn’t need it.
