TV Discussion Thread

Figured with the new fall season about to start, we can't go long without this thread!

I'm most excited for S.H.I.E.L.D. and the return of Elementary. I will probably try to keep an eye on The Crazy Ones and Super Fun Night, as well as Almost Human and Blacklist.

Also, of course, we should mention older shows we're catching up on. Now that my fall quarter looks to be very relaxed, I will be trying to watch a looot of Netflix. I see Xena in my future.

I'm also watching Arrested Development right now. Honestly, I tried to watch this show and I was absolutely underwhelmed -- didn't laugh, didn't care about anyone, thought all the hype was nonsense. I caught snippets of season three on IFC and found it more entertaining, and have been catching episodes on and off on Netflix. I'm enjoying it a lot more now, though it's not my favorite.

Basically I am about two months behind on *all* of my summer shows and need to catch up on them before Doctor Who and Downton Abbey come back and I add two more on which to fall behind.

You reminded me, of course Doctor Who is also on my list. Luckily for you, it's just the 50th Anniversary and the Christmas Special you have to catch up on for now -- I don't think they've even started filming Mr. Capaldi's 8th series yet. =)

And THAT reminds me, I will be trying to watch The Thick of It soon, too.

I can't wait until the new season of Downton Abbey. A friend if mine introduced me to the show several months ago and now I am enjoying watching the previous seasons on DVD. I love this show!

Sleepy Hollow starts Monday night. I'll give it a shot, since I like the material AND it's filmed here in North Carolina--at least parts of it. They're using Tryon Palace in New Bern, near where I went to college, as one of the sets :D

I really could clog this thread up with the stuff I watch. I'm looking forward to the following new shows:

Sleepy Hollow
The Originals (spin-off to The Vampire Diaries)
Dracula (starting to see a theme here and stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers of The Tudors)
Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Rein (probably won't catch on but I will watch)
Super Fun
The Tomorrow People
Hostages

I know I'm gonna have to give up something. LOLOLOLOL But the ratings will decide most of that.

I finally just started watching 24 on Netflix. I never watched it when it was on TV, so it's completely new to me.

So, what I want to know is... how the hell am I supposed to sleep when I have all of the episodes available to me back-to-back?!

I watched the Burn Notice series finale this morning.
There was weeping.

Newsroom finale is easily the weakest episode of the season, possibly of the series. They set up some good drama in the first half last week that they didn't deliver on. I felt absolutely no stakes for an entire hour, and called more than a couple of "twists".

That said.

I've never been so pleased with an episode of TV I was disappointed in. I mean. EEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Agreed, Coulson is a wonderful character, but I wish that some of the supporting actors had more character. There are far too many pretty youngsters...would like to see some older actors with craggy faces that show some life experience.

i'm hoping they pull in maria more, she and coulson together makes for great screen time. i saw a bus ad in one scene for stark industries, maybe some guest starring by thor, tony, bruce, clint..? they referenced natasha. i'd like them to give deadpool a nice little story but i'm not gonna hold my breath on that one (boo).

The Broadchurch finale is tonight. I'm among the dorky few awaiting the reveal of Danny's killer.

So I am eagerly awaiting Revolution, The Blacklist, Scandal, Nashville (soapy and I love it!), and the Amazing Race! I keep hearing wonderful things about Downton Abbey and 24, so I really need to do something about that.

So was S.H.I.E.L.D good for non-comic book fans? How did Sleepy Hollow turn out?

TV time again!

I marked Monday on my calendar for the Castle premiere. Love, love, love it! And, only slightly weird watching it since I met Nathan last month lol!

Tonight is all about Criminal Minds! Sorry to not see Strauss this year as she had grown on me, but we still have Hotch and Reid. (If ABC is reading this, please bring back Prentiss.)

Also, waiting for Amazing Race, Grimm, Supernatural, Haven, and the Big Bang. I'm behind in Supernatural and Haven though so we will see - are they on Netflix?

SHEILD was great! I'm not a diehard comic book fan, but still easy to follow and I caught some references just from watching the recent movies. Agree with someone else who said it was a young cast...good to see Coulson and liked the wittiness they kept in the show.

What and when is Rein?

Jenn

I thought Blacklist was terrific. I don't know if they can keep that pace up, but it was non stop action for an hour. The characters and the pace remind me a lot of 24.

S.H.I.E.L.D. ... Not sure what I think just yet. I have high expectations and Joss Whedon is brilliant so I'm hoping it does well. Personally, I would like to see more heroes in it but the first episode was well done. Certainly they are pumping money into it and if the writing is there then it can be a success. I liked it but didn't love it.

Sleepy Hollow: I like it a lot. Reminds me of Supernatural in it's beginning. Hopefully it won't be too similar because IMO that would be overkill. But it has promise.

Today I'm so looking forward to Criminal Minds and CSI.

Last night Chicago Fire ROCKED!!! Literal hot guys on TV. Can't ask for more....
