She was sleeping stretched out on her side an hour or so ago, it did NOT look very comfortable.

La Verdad has her left hind wrapped. I hope all is well with her. She's standing facing the camera now as I type this, so it's hard to get a sense of what's going on with that left hind, but she seems to be favoring it, trying not to put too much weight on it.

Maybe she did something in the paddock earlier. The weather there is abysmal and she and her pals were doing some running around this morning.

I looked back in the footage and about 90 minutes ago she was rolling around in her hay  and then stood up no problem & was standing square with her weight on it and eating her hay without any apparent discomfort, so maybe it's just a nick/cut/scratch.

It's common for them to rest with one hoof cocked, as she is now and if you go back about 17 minutes she was actually resting the opposite hind while weight-bearing on the wrapped one.

Thanks Lurkey. I appreciate you checking in on her and letting me know everything seems ok. Love these mares and the babies they are carrying.

How adorable! I was at Colonial when the mare won the Tippett Stakes in her first start. Been a fan ever since... :D

For those of you not yet glazed over with the mare-stare... the Foal Patrol blog prediction is that La Verdad will foal tonight.

Time to eat dinner & then settle in with tea and popcorn!

Did you all see the pig patrol video on the Edition Farm page? Hilarious. They put a camera on the pig so you get a pig's eye view as it runs out of the barn and down to the paddocks squealing and grunting the whole way.

La Verdad may be thinking about it here. Or she's thinking about how she can play with our minds.

In other news, it looks like Bird Town and Arravale will have cams soon.

 stupid question; if nature tells mares "foaling at night is safer" would all the lights be discouraging a mare from foaling?

Don't they wrap the mare's tail prior to her foaling? I would think if La Verdad would have her tail already wrapped if she is indeed foaling tonight.

The mare knows it is night time in spite of the lights, as horses do sense the passage of time (I'm not exactly sure how they specifically do it but trust that the horses at my barn get fed at 4 pm for dinner and at 4:05 pm if no one is getting the grain or the hay they WILL let you know  )
I was wondering though if the light would be an impediment to her sleeping comfortably- it's my first night watching her but I assume she's gotten used to it by now if they leave the lights on 24/7 for the cameras.

I'm not watching that feed, but is it possible that the lighting in the stall isn't regular white light? Maybe it's on the less-disturbing gold or red spectrum, and the cameras they're using can see just fine?
