Those last two fillies are 12/10, would squee over them again  So adorbs. And Curalina looks great, she's already got her girlish figure back! Hope her colt turns out to be special like his papa.

It isn't just the cuteness of these gorgeous babies, but their complete innocence that soothes my sometimes restless soul. It's a quarter after 2:00 AM here as I type this. Images of their beautiful, sweet faces will help me get back to sleep.

First foal is a filly for late New York sire Effinex
The first foal for the late Grade 1 winner Effinex was born Jan. 27 at Hidden Lake Farm in Stillwater, N.Y., when the Freud mare Freuda produced a bay filly.

She is the second foal out of Freuda, an unplaced 6-year-old, whose first foal was an Alpha filly.

The extended family includes 1993 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Brocco, Grade 1 winner Gozzip Girl, Grade 2 winner My Gi Gi, and Argentine Group 3 winner Galileo's Town.

"She's a big, strong, pretty filly, exactly what I was looking for," said breeder Chris Bernhard of Hidden Lake Farm. "She's got a big hip. We were breeding big-boned, shorter-backed mares to Effinex, and the two that I've gotten so far are what I was hoping for physically. Hopefully we can get a little lucky and they can reproduce themselves on the racetrack."

Effinex stood his debut season at Questroyal North in Stillwater before being moved to McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. in advance of his second year at stud. However, he died in October of a pulmonary aneurysm before he could cover a second book of mares.

Effinex was New York's second-most active stallion of 2017, covering a reported 110 mares in his lone season at stud.

"Effinex was born and raised with me and Freuda was born and raised with me, so it's kind of fun to have both of them in this foal and keep it in the family," Bernhard said. "Obviously, it's sad to not have him to breed back to this year. Hopefully we can just enjoy the offspring."

Creator is a handsome stallion. He has a lovely neck that is reminiscent of Alysheba, whose neck was similarly elegant.
