before anyone gets angry, i'm happy to learn more abt his stats relative to other stallions that stand/have stood in his price range, to get a better idea of if he is, actually, over priced.

Well, in 2017 he had the same number of G1 winners as Tapit did in 2016. In 2016 he was the #1 North American sire by SW (12%). Most importantly his yearlings sell like hot cakes, even his weanlings fetch high prices. His progeny performs overseas in a manner that keep the foreign buyers coming back with deep pockets, which motivates American breeders to pay said fee. At least in Europe his Winners-Runners in Euro stakes is 41% from basically the moment he entered stud to present day. And his worldwide G1 is 27%. Compare that to Sea the Stars who is 21% worldwide G1 and 35% Euro stakes. Frankel is currently at 6% for Worldwide G1s and and 43% for Euro stakes. Dubawi has a 45% Euro Stakes R-W rate and a 25% Worldwide G1 rate. And Galileo has a 25% Worldwide G1 rate with a 40% Euro Stakes rate. (Of course with Galileo his stats are made all the more impressive by the sheer number of runners he has). In fact when compared to the current top 10 Stallion rankings in Europe, of those I didn't name, only 2 had a Worldwide G1 rate over over 14%, and both were below 20%. I think all of those I didn't name had a euro stakes R-W under 35%.

Mastery to stand for $25k next season.

25k feels like pushing it... but he must have gotten a lot of interest.

He has smaller foal crops than most of the other top flight stallions. Just comparing statistics from this year's general sire list, here are some stats:

War Front - 177 runners. 82 winners (46%), 18 black type stakes winner (10%), 10 graded stakes winners (6%), 5 G1 winners (3%). $250,000 stud fee.

Tapit - 258 runners. 122 winners (47%), 17 black type stakes winners (7%), 10 graded stakes winners (4%), 3 G1 winners (1%). $300,000 stud fee.

Medaglia d'Oro - 183 runners. 78 winners (43%), 13 black type stakes winners (7%), 8 graded stakes winners (4%), 5 G1 winners (3%). $150,000 stud fee.

Curlin - 180 runners. 98 winners (54%), 13 black type stakes winners (7%), 7 graded stakes winners (4%), 1 G1 winner. $150,000 stud fee.

Kitten's Joy - 317 runners. 151 winners (48%), 15 black type stakes winners (5%), 11 graded stakes winners (3%), 3 G1 winners (1%). $100,000 stud fee.

Speightstown - 237 runners. 129 winners (54%), 12 black type stakes winners (5%), 3 graded stakes winners (1%), no G1 winners. $100,00 stud fee.

Scat Daddy - 266 runners. 127 winners (48%), 23 black type stakes winners (9%), 13 graded stakes winners (5%), 4 G1 winners (2%). Died in 2015.

^ true his very limited book helps with his stats and increases demand by limiting supply. All factors that contribute to his fee.
As with anything but especially with thoroughbreds, the price is right if someone's willing to pay for it.

Mastery at $25K is a little rich for my blood, especially considering you could get Candy Ride himself for $60K this year. I think if I was looking at Mastery, I'd be looking at Unified for $10K. I like Dixie Union on the dam side maybe more than Old Trieste. And does Gun Runner retire after BC this year or will they race him at 5? How much would he command?

I feel similarly. Last I heard about Gun Runner comments were suggesting he could race on for another campaign. I would assume if he does well in the BCC he'd go to the PWC too and if they decide to keep him in training might attempt the DWC.

Gun Runner has s fantastic female family, and his race record speaks for itself. I'd say $50,000 at least for him.

He also has unlike the other Candy Rides, and Candy Ride himself, the durability factor. If he keeps winning the big ones until his retirement then I think he could easily ask for 60k.

If Candy Ride's fee goes up from $60k (which it has to, right?) then I could see Gun Runner going for $50k. I don't know if I can see him being much higher than that.

Chrome has been big news in South America ever since the announcement that he would stand the southern hemisphere season in Chile. He's been featured on TV and in numerous print articles. Here's a recent example:
