10 year old/G Swiss Ski, in his 79th start, came in 2nd losing by a nose in the 6th at Turf Paradise today. He's been in the money in 50 of those starts. He was the post time favorite, and he looked like a winner! In for a $3,000 tag, he wasn't claimed.

Now, here is a genuine Iron Horse. 13yo Fortunate Trail will make his 145th (!) start at Camarero this Friday (2/7/14).
He started 21 times in 2013 alone, and has raced all up and down the eastern seaboard and in the midwest. No rust on this
young man. 144 - 27-28-17, $356,913.

Good Luck, Fortunate Trail!

10yo Big Swiss, was eased and vanned off after crossing the finish line in Race 3 at Los Alamitos this past
Sunday (2/9/14). Would anyone happen to know of his status? Hoping for a good outcome here- he's an old trouper...

10yo Sun City will make her 108th start, and looking for her 22nd win, on Sunday (2/16/14) at Turf Paradise. Running with mostly 8 and 9 year olds
in a $3000 claiming race. Lasix and Geritol...

Swiss Ski finished 2nd for the third time in 2014 at Turf Paradise yesterday. This guy continues to be extremely competative as
he races into antiquity - and fun to follow. His connections just love him...

Thanks for the report on Swiss Ski, War Biscuit.

Catching up on Sun City, she came in 5th of 8. Led until the end, yielded in the stretch...still trying.

Also Be Bullish won the Hollie Hughes S. at Aqueduct (Jacobson trains) on Feb 17, and looked good doing it.

Porfido is still a stallion according to Equibase, Starine! He had a 3F in 39.20 workout at Turf Paradise on Feb 15.

11yo mare, and stakes winner,Rare Crystal, won for the 17th time on opening day at Fonner Park on Friday, and did it
in fine fashion. In the past few seasons her connections have only run her 3 or 4 times a year, but she remains quite
competitive and has found a home at Fonner. Good to see old timers still having fun...

10yo Challenger, a son of Chester House, will try for his 3rd consecutive win at Mountaineer on Monday (3/3/14).
In the money in all but 3 of his races in 2013.

10yo Hariolus was a winner for the 11th time, at Calder on February 23rd.

10yo Texas Holladay, raced 20 times in 2013 - started out well, but has been having a rough time of it lately - is
entered for his 2014 debut at Mountaineer this Sunday (3/3/14) in Race 9, along with 11yo Tony Lantana, 10yo Port Royal,
10yo Running Wish, along with some youth - all 6, 8 and 9yo's.

12yo Missing Sefa won the 1st at Turfway (Cl8000). She now has a record of 98-27-16-14, $334,816. Circled the (small) field 7-8 wide and was still full of run as she crossed under the wire. She has a lot of fans at Turfway.

Thanks for the report s_g! She had a rough trip last time out - came in 10th. Made amends today.

10yo Challenger, by Chester House, began his 2014 campaign with a win - his third consecutive, at Mountaineer
yesterday.

A gelding that may bear watching is 10yo Nite Fun, who raced only for the 11th time in his career today. For some reason, he was brought back in
2014 after having not raced since 2008. He was not doing well then and appears to be struggling in his comeback, finishing last or near to it in his
last several races - and came in last today at Sam Houston Park. I could be way off track here, but coming back at 10 and continuing to struggle
in low level claimers just does not seem worthwhile - unless, of course, he enjoys it - but I don't know...

Things like that do make you go "hmmm."

Sun City came in 5th of 6 today in for a $3k claiming price at Turf Paradise. Chart says "tired, stopped" and she looked the part beaten by 12 1/4 lengths. She's been racing steadily since 2007, and seems to be racing sound for all these years. I've really enjoyed watching her at Emerald, but not sure about this year. I can only hope they do the right thing for her. She's been quite the warrior with 109 starts and a record of 21-27-16 for earnings of $179,705.

That's awesome; what an honest mare.

Here's the chart for those interested:

Don't recall a mention of it here, but two well known old timers were both retired this past year and have found great homes to enjoy
their days.

12yo Wasserman was injured and retired in August. All time leading money earner at Emerald Downs, he left the track with a record
of 83 - 13-15-14 and $599,091.

12yo Towzee retired and adopted. 37 - 4-9-4 and $156,616.

Happy Retirement Boys...

I think we put it in a different thread. But this gives me a place to post this picture. Wasserman will always be a fan favorite in my house, as well as Jennifer and Marcus <smile>. Jennifer was Wasserman's regular rider and they obviously have a relationship. Marcus was at EMD for a fundraiser to support the LEUKEMIA & LYMPHOMA SOCIETY.

Marcus Trufant, former Seattle Seahawk and 11th overall in the 2003 NFL Draft, poses with EmD's all-time leading female rider, Jennifer Whitaker, and all-time leading earner and fan-favorite, Wasserman! (EMD Facebook)

Swiss Ski 10/G just finished 2nd by a short nose at Turf Paradise. He's finished in the top three in 51 of his 81 races :-)
