Scott on TVG just announced that Presque Isle has cancelled racing again today, due to deer on the grounds. I have to wonder what the heck the track management has been doing about the problem.
While I don't think that shooting the deer is a kind solution (and definitely bad for racing's already-challenged animal welfare image ;) ), wouldn't having a couple of wolfy-looking sheep-herding dogs patrol the edge of the track help? Maybe before the first race and again around the 4th race?

Presque Isle Downs canceled its entire live racing card Monday due to ongoing safety concerns with the local deer population's infiltrating the racetrack. This marks the third time in the past week that the Erie, Pennsylvania, course has lost races because of the deer situation. Last Monday, racing was canceled after the 3RD race, and the program was called off after the 4TH race on Sunday. The Blood-Horse's Tom LaMarra reports that Presque Isle officials and the Pennsylvania Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association are seeking instructions from the Pennsylvania Game Commission as well as the commonwealth's Department of Agriculture on how to proceed...

Parx delays opening of track for training until Monday

Parx Racing is pushing back the reopening of its track for training until Monday.

Parx had been scheduled to open for “limited training” on Friday, but Sam Elliott, the track’s director of racing, said late Thursday afternoon that the track was not quite ready and that track superintendent Gerard Weipert needed to finish leveling the base around the inner part of the racing surface.
