Anybody else notice that the JCGC has two UAE Derby winners in it?

Belmont Entries had Ryan Moore riding the Mott-trained 2yo filly Limage in the 5th, a MSW on the turf. It was taken off the grass and run on the main, so I thought this would be a good chance for Ryan to get more familiar with Big Sandy.
Then I saw the most recent Changes; Moore was replaced by J Ortiz.

Imperial Hint wins the G1 Vosburgh with ease. 'This little rocket ship,' as Colmus called him, was geared down at the wire. The field wasn't as strong as past Vosburghs may have been, but a performance like this has got to set up the small-but-mighty son of Imperialism well for the BC Sprint.

Nice for the KRA's Mr. Crow to get a Gr.I-placing.

Channel Maker's brave win in the G1 Joe Hirsch was preceded by Flying Scotsman (also English Channel) winning a nice 1-mile MSW for 2yos on the turf at Santa Anita, refusing to let the favored Omaha Beach (War Front) get by him at the wire.
English Channel is such a good, consistent sire, but sometimes I think he doesn't get enough respect. :P ;)

Been a good year for English Channel.

And Kitten's Joy had the third place finisher.

Well, that was...interesting.
So, Mendelssohn is better than Diversify, and Thunder Snow was better than both...but does anyone think that Discreet Lover is really better than all three?
That pace was kind of scorching, and I give Mendy credit for hanging on as long as he did, but it really set up the longshot to take advantage of some tiring horses, IMHO.

Mendy ran Diversity into the ground, great run by the 3 year old. And Discreet Lover, what a story.

Kudos to Mendelssohn for sticking around down the stretch after those swift early fractions. This race should do him well toward the BCC.

I agree that Mendy is better than Diversify (that was just like a match race), but disagree that Thunder Snow is better. The race set up perfectly for whoever wasn't up front. If Mendy steps forward of this race (and that's the big if) then he should have a good shot at the BCC. Still can't believe that he hung in there, thought he was done around the turn already.

Yay for Discreet Lover! What a run he put in, well deserved!

This effort should also fortify Thunder Snow, who could be good enough to grab the World Cup/BC Classic double.
Now, watch Discreet Lover come to Churchill and make fools of us...again.

I wouldn't say Thunder Snow is better than Mendelssohn. Mendelssohn hanging tough for as long as he did after those fractions vs. Thunder Snow coming in late to pick up the pieces and still getting beat by a 45-1 shot reflects better on Mendelssohn than Thunder Snow - in my opinion.

Either way, if M and TS bring that form to the BCC, either have a live chance of winning. And a great story for Discreet Lover. A 45-1 shot owned by his trainer beating out two billion dollar empires.
