I don't have access to a replay, but I'd be interested to see if Florent was hitting MG right-handed when she ducked in toward the rail, and if she then swerved out after FG changed to a left-handed whip.
And if FG kept hitting her left-handed, even though she was bearing out, that might have weighed in the steward's decision.

No, he was using the right handed whip, she was lugging out (tired) at the end.

Thanks for that info.
Mike Smith's bank account is very happy, as McKinzie runs like a favorite and wins the PA Derby. Smith takes home the jock's share of two $1 million races, which IIRC, would be about $120,000? Nice way to spend a Saturday. :P
I did notice that McK does not like being struck by the whip; the two times I saw Mike hit him coming down the stretch, the colt whipped his tail up in the air both times in protest.

He stayed on the right handed whip as she bore out, yes she was probably tired given she ran on a dead rail almost the entire way (for some reason Florent thought nothing of avoiding it even though it was dead all day... wasn't a single winner that ran on the rail today)

Speaking of the whip Mike Smith was hitting McKinzie pretty hard in the stretch and he didn't like that at all. He's back though, clearly prevailed.
If anyone hit that tri... they're lucky. I think McKinzie went off 2-1, Axelrod went off at 10-1 and Trigger warning hit the bottom at 81-1

Edit: baroque beat me to it (no pun intended) about the whip. Not only did he wring his tail he also jerked his head back up and shortened his stride a bit each time.

Monomoy Girl looked like a green horse there.
Badly tiring.
Long campaign taking its toll. Will be tossing from any BC wagers in a few weeks as one who will be taking money.

McKenzie has done that quite a bit (tail wringing when hit) in the past.

Great shot of Firenze Fire being attacked:

Yeah, I remember McKinzie switching is tail last year. I'm surprised Mike wasn't sensitive to that dislike--it sure didn't make him run faster.

Enough about Hofburg already. :(

Yes, it looked like Monomoy was herding by getting tired/looking green, not the intent of Flo.

Anyone know why Mott decided to add blinkers on Hofburg? He's won without blinkers so it surprised me that Mott added them.

If Mike hit McK only two times in the whole stretch (which is all I remember seeing...could be wrong), then I would guess that Smith knows that the colt doesn't appreciate getting hit. Good thing Mikey also has a strong hand ride, because apparently the colt has a strong opinion about the whole whip thing. :P

The outrage at the decision in the Bloodhorse comments is kind of entertaining... but also kind of terrifying to see how few people actually understand the rules of horse racing or anything really surrounding an inquiry/foul... :?

She should not be green now. I would say that was a tired horse. Not sure she wants to run against the older girls.

Barbara Livingston got a close up of The Savage 2.0. This is from her twitter.

Poor Frienze Fire looks so confused haha

Great picture! Looks like his teeth just grazed him. Wonder why he decided to take a bite?

The Savage 2.0 is right. Great capture.

The head-on replay made me laugh. The way the jock pulled him off of the winner reminded me of someone at the dog park yanking their snarly pup away from another dog.

McKenzie = Big 107 Beyer Speed Figure!

Cotillion, both fillies got a 101.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.
