Of course there's no Gun Runner in here nor is the field chock full of Eclipse winners, but it is still a fun field nonetheless. Came up large as well. Not a lot of speed though.

1 Yoshida (JPN) (5-1)
2 Imperative (30-1)
3 Patch (20-1)
4 Tapwrit (6-1)
5 Hence (20-1)
6 Term of Art (30-1)
7 Kurilov (CHI) (10-)
8 Discreet Lover (8-1)
9 Gunnevera (4-1)
10 Seeking the Soul (9-2)* Favorite
11 Leofric (20-1)
12 Sunny Ridge (8-1)
13 Zanotti (20-1)
14 Rally Cry (20-1)

I think my pick is Seeking the Soul, but I also expect Gunnevera to run a big one. I also think Discreet Lover is sitting on a big one.

Interesting to see what Hence does here. He won a small stakes at Albuquerque in his last start by 6+ lengths, which was a much-needed confidence booster for him I think.

Interesting to see Yoshida (and Kurilov? Unless I’m thinking of another Chilean bred who normally runs on grass) attempting the switch to dirt here.

Rooting for Patch and I think Gunnevera will fire. Not a deep field per se but many recognisable names and decent quality spread throughout.

Kurilov is one of those dudes that goes from grass to dirt and back again, so you're probably thinking correct.

Ah that might be it!
Nice to see a full field for a G1 and I think it’s an interesting handicapping opportunity.

Will Gunnevera finally have his moment in the sun?

I'm mostly interested to see how Yoshida does in his main track debut -- I'm always curious to see how the Sunday Silence-lined horses do on the main track. They've had some success there.

I'd like to see a huge race from Gunnevera, and Sunny Ridge too. I think most of us here have a big soft spot for Patch - hope he does well!

OK so Twitter reminded me that Yoshida'a dam, Hilda's Passion, won the Gr.I Ballerina on dirt, so yes he does have dirt in the pedigree.

Trainer Uriah St. Lewis seems really confident in Discreet Lover...

At 8/1 I think the 12 horse should have no problem being up on the pace throughout with Irad at the controls,
deep stretch is anybody's guess but the price on SunnyRidge gets my vote.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Gunnevera just kicked someone in the paddock...EMTs on the way, probable delays.

Yoshida!!!!?
Wow. He not only won, he did it in impressive fashion.
Breaking from the rail in a 14-horse field, being stuck in the middle of that mass, he would have had excuses to not get up...but he came charging past everyone for his first win in his first race on dirt.
Are we looking at another Cigar?

Gunny half reared/lunged in the paddock, it might have been when his girth was being tightened. It looked like A. Sano that he knocked over, but not sure.

Strong win by Yoshida, and glad to see Gunny up for second. All is forgiven.

YAY YOSHIDA!
YAY HEART'S CRY!
YAY SUNDAY SILENCE! :D

Incredible run by Yoshida here for his first performance on dirt he took to the kickback pretty well. Was worried they'd not make it after he went so wide but then he turned on the afterburners and not even Gunnevera could catch him!

Edited to fix

Yoshida is from the family of Damascus, who was owned by a member of the Woodward family.

No.
Yoshida is the son of Heart's Cry who defeated Deep Impact in the Arima Kinen. ;)

It was the driver of Gunnevera's trailer, who I believe they said is a former trainer.
