I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Interesting.

IMHO it'll be Accelerate/Pavel/The Lieutenant in some order.

What about the stranger-danger with Prat up for Baffert?
anybody know anything about Roman Rosso, winner of 1/2 million dollars way down south?

Last year Baffert had two in, the winner Collected and some other horse. This year he's also got Dr. Dorr, hmmmm!

Since the West Coast handicap division isn't as strong as it has been in recent years, I'm kind of surprised that no one has shipped in from the East Coast to try for that $1 million purse.
Is it because there are so many million-dollar purses back East right now?
The Pacific Classic's not likely to end up with a muddy track, either. ;)

Unfortunately Beach View will have to scratch from the Pacific Classic @DelMarRacing after injuring the coronet band of his RF hoof. Not a long term injury but bad timing. Thanks owners Levy Racing to understand that horse always comes first

I am also interested in Roman Rosso. Curious to see how he fares since it takes a while for a horse to get acclimated here.

Interesting...The Lieutenant is the older half brother to Justify.

Accelerate won in a 12 1/2 length romp. Pavel was second, Prime Attraction third.

This is what happens when you leave a colt in training until he matures. (Or. . .until his superior peers all retire!) I must say that was visually awesome.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

I love the way this horse has developed since last season. He went from being just the horse who upset Accelerate to becoming a standout in the handicap division. And he just seems to be getting better as the season goes on.

If he wins the Awesome Again and the BC Classic, do you see him overtaking Justify as HOTY? I think it's plausible.

That's a long way away right now, approximately 2,083 miles.

He'll need to overcome all the pundits saying he can't win outside of California, and he's got a trainer who has on rare occasion shipped successfully over the Rocky Mountains, but it's seldom his first choice during a long west coast career.

95% chance it doesn't matter what Accelerate, or Monomoy Girl, or even Wonder Gadot do this year. HOTY is decided, unfortunately.

People were voting Arrogate for 2016 HOTY because of two races in the last half of the year. 6 in the first half is more than enough in the current age.

Arrogate ran two of the best races in modern history and soundly beat the only other HOTY contender on the square in the championship event. I understand why he didn't get it, but he would have been a fully deserving HOTY and his situation really wasn't comparable to Justify's.

I'm still not an Accelerate believer, but it's a shame he has no shot at the award despite a lovely season so far. He really should.

I disagree. A horse wins the Big Cap, Gold Cup, Pacific Classic, Awesome Again, and BC Classic in one year - that’s quite a feat, he trumps the TC winner who never raced past June and didn’t beat older stakes horses.
Of course, I’m not convinced he can do it.#sadlercurse

Oh I fully agree! I don't think Justify should have it locked up and I'd be happy to see the racing community offer some resistance to Winstar and its decisions. I just don't think it'll happen. But if Accelerate does put together that sort of campaign- or if Diversify wins the Woodward/JCGC and Classic- I hope somebody makes some noise.

He may have an extreme outside chance at HOY if he wins both the AA and Classic, but I highly doubt it. The TC is so elusive (even though we just 2 in 3 years) that it pretty much trumps all else in this sport I guess.
I do respect Accelerate and he appears to be in career form, but he's also possibly benefiting from the fact that Gun Runner and Arrogate are both retired and Collected and West Coast have been off for most of the year. If just one of those had run during the year then I'm not sure he runs the table on the SoCal triple. I suppose the same could be said about Diversify though; they can only run against what competition is available.
Accelerate also has only shipped out of SoCal once and that resulted in a loss (though he ran a winning type of race), so maybe that means nothing.
