It's that time of year again! The TBC Derby Pool Contest was originally founded by The Shadow, and the rules are simple:

1. Select one horse from each of the pools listed below.
2. Note your predicted margin of victory and final time, which will be used as tiebreakers
3. Feel free to edit selections up until five minutes before post time, but please do make a post noting any changes so that I don't miss them.
4. Points will be awarded if any of your choices finish in the top 6, on a scale of 30-20-15-10-5-1
5. Winner gets the title of Greatest Handicapper of All Time for exactly one year.

Edit: As a third tiebreaker and bonus round, feel free to pick one sire from the following: Scat Daddy, Curlin, and Medaglia d'Oro. The points earned by each sire will be added together after the race and used as a third tiebreaker if necessary.

Please note that the pools were very difficult to divide up this year due to the large number of horses at 30-1 and 50-1. I used the future wager odds along with current Vegas and overseas odds to make the divisions, but it's an inexact science so I apologize if they end up wildly inaccurate!

Love these contests. Thanks, Tess.

BTW, the current champ is Spahny. ;) Not me. I got 2nd last year for messing up on that final time. I'll post mines on Saturday. I'm actually rooting for Audible myself. Might put $20 on him instead of $10 to make it an $80 profit. My saver.

Good luck everyone.

See, if you hadn't told me you would have gotten away with it! :D Thanks for the correction, I couldn't actually find the thread and my spreadsheet is a terrible mess.

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

This might be a little late but.. how about a "bonus round" Sires Pool for fun? Since there are multiple sires with multiple entrants this year, a Scat Daddy Pool, a Curlin Pool and a Medaglia d'Oro pool could be fun? Could count for much lower points like 6-5-4-3-2-1. Dunno of that's too much trouble though!

That's a really fun idea! I don't want to change up the rules or have it influence much since it's already started, but I'll add it as a little bonus and a potential third tiebreaker.

Everyone feel free to edit their posts and pick one of the following sires!

Scat Daddy: Flameaway, Justify, Mendelssohn, Combatant
Curlin: Good Magic, Solomini, Vino Rosso
Medaglia d'Oro: Bolt d'Oro, Enticed
