Where's Kurt Hoover?
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Good question, which I also posted about in the 'Jockeys & Trainers' thread.
Last Saturday, I tuned in to The Quarters and caught the tail end of a conversation between the guys that seemed to be about Kurt Hoover. It sounded like 'hang in there,' 'stay strong' kind of stuff. :?
I don't know if Kurt's dealing with illness, injury or something else...or it I got the name wrong.
But, it's true he hasn't been on TVG this week (maybe he was on TVG2, which I don't get?), not even in The Handicapsule on Monday or Tuesday afternoons, and that's a bit unusual.

It's strange; there's no one on the desk in The Handicapsule this morning. I know Rich was in town working yesterday, so it's not like he missed a flight out of Kentucky. Is everyone so exhausted from trying to cover a race (which they weren't allowed near) that the whole staff needs a day off?
Regarding Kurt Hoover; I heard the guys on The Quarters again sending 'get well' wishes out to Kurt and Les Onaka last week. No one on TVG has officially passed along any info, so it's a mystery.

ETA: The Handicapsule desk has finally been filled by Peter Lurie. Apparently Rich is 'under the weather.'

It's too bad he's going to be on TVG2. I'd enjoy listening to Vic, but I can't get TVG2.

I agree, one step at a time.

That stinks re: Stauffer. He's knowledgeable and entertaining, but instead they maroon him on TVG2.

Remember he makes a lot of demands on his employer for his schedule adjustments as a preeminent handicapping contest player across the country, my guess is this is a compromise by both sides for the time being. And even more of a dilemma is that he still has the Oaklawn announcing job in Jan25-Feb-Mar-Apr-May4. Kinda tough on TVG to make him the star of the show.

I've met him, he seems like a nice guy. He used to post on another forum and the exchanges he had with certain people were interesting for lack of a milder word.

Hope Kurt Hoover is doing OK, another nice guy who always is willing to talk when you see him. I talked with him in the beer line at Del Mar, just a regular guy who enjoys the game.

I turned on TVG a little while ago and it sounded like Kurt Hoover talking with Dave Weaver. :D
Welcome back Kurt.

I know that Paul LoDuca doesn't work for TVG anymore, but I thought this was a fun read about him betting the Preakness.

He had the chance to say goodbye while on air and IIRC, being closer to family had something to do with it.

Nice to hear Vic Stauffer on the primary stage again.
And him coming with a $22.80 winner in the NoCalFair nitecap doesn't hurt any, thanks!

Today's TBC Blue Ribbon Award for picking winners goes to Simon Bray, who hit the early Pick Four at Santa Anita. I don't have the exact figures at hand, but it was something like a $36 ticket for a $1,400+ payout? 8-)

While I've been enjoying TVG's coverage of Royal Ascot, it drives me a wee bit crazy that there is a complete disconnect between what Scot, Britney or Barry are talking about and the visuals being broadcast.
I don't know if they don't have any kind of monitors to watch what the TVG signal is showing (which seems like an avoidable lack), but it is really annoying to listen to them drone on and on...and not say anything about what is being shown on TV. Horses are walking around the parade ring, or galloping down the course on their way to the gate, but all I hear is Scot and/or Barry droning on and on about something else.
Why would TVG set up their crew with no way to provide some semblance of post parade information about the horses WHILE we're looking at those horses? Since the British track doesn't HAVE an orderly post parade, with names, pedigrees, post position, etc., it would have been useful to have TVG provide that.

Mike & Matt announced a little while ago that TVG (not just TVG2) will be showing races from Churchill Downs for its whole fall meet, starting today.
That's kind of amazing. I don't know who managed to negotiate this deal, considering Befair's and CDI's long lasting lack of love for each other, but they deserve some sort of Eclipse Award. Maybe they should be sent to Washington next to get our partisan Congress working together. :P
