Statement by NYRA CEO & and President Chris Kay on Justify and the 150th running of the Belmont Stakes

Belmont Park will play host to a Triple Crown hopeful when Justify attempts to add the 150th running of the Grade 1, $1.5 million Belmont Stakes to his victories in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. It will mark the first Triple Crown attempt since American Pharoah and Victor Espinoza rode into racing immortality in 2015.

With a horse like Audible who really makes the decision to run or not?

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Thanks.
I understand that he'll be the one to make the announcement, I was just curious if anybody thought he might to defer to somebody else's judgement, like Pletcher for example.

Looking at a 26 year average winning Beyer score of 103.7 in the Belmont Stakes, lacking any other notable projection at this point in time, the question is Who is capable of running that kind of number?

Assuming there's a possibility of a Triple Crown in the making, let's bump up the average number a couple of points and ask the same question again, who is capable of running a 105 or 106 in this year's edition because they're a special horse?

We all know that Justify tops the field with a 107 but some say he may be in declining form, so let's look elsewhere....

Some think it might be Audible, and his best lifetime Beyer is _______?

While others think it might be the up and coming Bravazo whose lifetime best is __________?

Do you think Justify will be + or - even money on the odds board?

(and for those that prefer Ragozin or Thorograph sheet numbers, I think the comparisons will be similar, no?)
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

An article came out yesterday Common Ownership Decisions and the "Curse of Assault":
“I think we'll just have to wait and see,” WinStar president and CEO Elliott Walden told drf.com, when asked about running Audible in the Belmont. “We're just not going to make any rash decision; we'll think it through. We'll see how they both train up and go from there.”

Restoring Hope (trained by Bob Baffert) possible for Belmont Stakes

Others expected to take on Justify include Blended Citizen, Bravazo, Free Drop Billy, Hofburg, Tenfold, and Vino Rosso. Audible and Gronkowski are possible starters.
Field slowly taking shape.

The Belmont is a prestigious G1 race in its own right. It shouldn't be looked at as just an add-on to the first two Triple Crown races, IMHO.
If your stable is lucky enough to have two colts good enough to try Big Sandy's 12-furlong classic, they should both run. That's what this sport is about.
If Winstar, etc. only runs Justify and he doesn't win, how stupid would they feel for not entering Audible? :?

They have all ready said Audible would not be in the race just tired of every one trying to get him in.

I haven't seen anything about that, especially since they decided to go with Todd's plan to skip the Preakness and prepare him for Belmont. Either they didn't have faith that Justify would win the Preakness (doubtful) or they thought Audible has a good chance for the Belmont.
And again... as an owner I'd rather lose to myself than someone else.
If Audible doesn't run and Justify loses to someone else's horse, that's 800 000$ they just lost to an adversary.

:!:

Audible hasn't had a work since the KY Derby.

I think it's pretty obvious he will not be running. You can't take almost 3 weeks off and expect to win The Belmont. I have no idea why we are even talking about him at this point.

Audible and Vino Rosso are both working this Friday. Waiting three weeks to work between the Derby and Belmont is pretty standard for Pletcher, who is outstanding at preparing horses for this race.

But he can't get a horse to go the distance my friend.
