Because why not ;) ?

Interesting factoid I just remembered earlier is that he is a mid-May foal (May 17th I believe).

I would have to agree, he is simply stunning. I remember when I was able to visit Johannesburg at Coolmore before he began his stud career. Scat Daddy was a favorite as well, loved his coloring. Put that together with being a half to Beholder and he is just awesome in my book. Not sure when the Epsom Derby is run, but could they run him here in the KY Derby and then turn around and run in the Epsom Derby? I always thought they were run too close or even on the same day is why nobody has done it.

He is a wonder, I am smitten. :D

Stallion pedigree!!!
He’s fantastic. I can never gauge the UAE Derby winner - but we know he beat some nice colts in the BC Juvenile Turf last year. I would never have guessed a mare by Tricky Creek would produce 3 remarkable horses like this.

Did Coolmore (or whoever owns her) ever send Scat Daddy's dam back to Johannesburg? Unless she was/is too old, that seems like a logical thing to do.
Speaking of dams, isn't Mendelssohn's mom, Leslie's Lady, due to have her American Pharoah foal soon?

Godolphin owns her, at least when she foaled in 2016 they did. She went to Tapit for a foal this year although I’m not sure if she’s pregnant or not. They would have to ship her to Japan to breed to Johannesburg and although they do have the money to do it, I don’t know if they want to fly a 19 yr old mare over there.

Yes! Her 2017 Medaglia d'Oro colt was foaled on April 4th I believe, so I imagine her American Pharoah is going to drop pretty soon.
I couldn't seem to track down who she went to in 2015 for her 2016 foal (if she had one?)

And yeah, Grand Daddy is standing in South America.

Whether or not he beat much, a 106 BSF going 9.5F while showing an early turn of foot puts Mendelssohn at or very near the top of the list for the first Saturday in May imo.

I was replying to Baroque, so there's a word missing but I'm sure you can guess from context ;)

Does the fact that no less than three track records were all established on the same day dampen that BSF any?
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

I think that is something to keep in mind! The track was obviously fast.

I'd be thrilled if he won the Derby (the one in KY, that is), but the1st Saturday in May is a far cry from what he did yesterday. It was a beautiful win, but what did he face? The bias at Meydan is also a serious concern.

I wonder when O'Brien will ship Mendelssohn to Kentucky? IMHO, getting a couple of workouts over the Churchill surface would be a good thing.

As good as he is, he is no expert when it comes to this stuff so don't be surprised!

O'Brien said in a post-race interview that he'd likely ship him in late. This is the only place I've seen the quote in print.
O’Brien likes to send his horses late in the game to major races, and the Derby, in which O’Brien has run five horses, his best finish a fifth, will be no different. O’Brien said he’ll ship Mendelssohn as late as possible to Churchill Downs, and Mendelssohn will do all his major work for the race at Ballydoyle, O’Brien’s stables in Ireland.

Americans will get only a few days to see firsthand how this colt looks in the lead-up to America’s biggest race, and to decide whether he could actually win the thing.

Thanks. I couldn't remember where I heard him say it. Had some business at our local track yesterday and was playing catch-up with the big races at the end of the day.
