No horse out of the Risen Star at fair grounds has ever won the Derby but many have been in the money need to keep this in mind this week end.

I like Instilled Regard, who has shown some quality and trained well in SoCal. I actually consider him a California horse, even though Hollendorfer has chosen the Louisiana path for his Derby hopeful. Being by Arch, he has the pedigree for the distance.

I’m also a fan of the Arch colt. Does Hollendorfer have another top 3-year-old that he’s trying to keep separate?

Maybe he's just trying to stay away from the Baffert colts? ;)

The turf race was 1-1/8th and she was pulling away to win by 5!!!

Tokyo race not important ==name one Derby winner from Japan,

After you're comment about Paved I ran my derby speed program on her she runs at 1 mile and 1 1/8 mile on grass 18.5 yps the only horse who can run with her is Epical. both on grass and this reminds me of a question I asked years ago which is faster the time on dirt or grass no one could answer then but now I can.

Paved is not a Derby candidate. They are using the El Camino Real and the La Providencia in April to give her foundation for some of the bigger distaff turf races later in the year.

But this is only the second year I believe that Japanese races are awarded Derby points - since the point system was implemented the only choice a Japanese horse had was to compete in Dubai first which I would think is a disadvantage for a couple of reasons.
It's probably not a huge factor at this point but could be interesting in the coming years.

Southwest Grade III point race. 2/19/18
Horses I am looking at in race #9.
#7 retirement fund looks to be the one to beat.
#2 Sporting Chance don’t care for trainer
#4 Mourinho has 10 point could make it 20,
#10 Combatant could improve a little.
Moore later.
