That photo looks more like the old flatracing track Galopprennbahn Freudenau in Vienna, which is some 50 years older than Trabrennbahn Baden. But the Freudenau track has been dark, I think by now for some years. The adjacent trotting track (Krieau, also in Vienna) may still be active.
Where did I say anything about Baden? Read my posting again, of course this is the Freudenau. And there was the Vienna Ascot in last September. I know since I'm from Vienna and was actually there to see it with my own eyes.

Galopprennbahn! That's even better than Hippodrome (Hipodromo) as far as foreign words for "racetrack" go!

It may help to know that the word consists of three parts: Galopp -- Renn -- Bahn, hence meaning galopp -- race -- track (very loosely speaking).

With Ebreichsdorf... that was bound to happen. There is a really beautiful racetrack right in Vienna (Freudenau), he wanted to develop there, but the problem was that it's a historic monument, so there was no way to tear it down (thank god, cause it is really beautiful, so are the stables) and build new tribunes etc. Could have been modernized without tearing it down, but he wanted a state of the art racetrack (like in the US). So he went 1 hour outside of Vienna and built it there. Needless to say very few people at all ventured there. And what can I say? Last September they held a racing meet at the Freudenau in Vienna (the old track). Aaaaand it was packed full.
Apologies. Somehow I saw the Freudenau photo, but did not see the preceding message that elaborated on Freudenau still being sort of active. Since one of my previous messages had specifically mentioned Baden, I assumed we were still on that subject.

The really funny thing is that my one and only family friend connected with horse racing, whom I did meet in late September, did not mention the event. Then again, she may be more interested in Baden and Krieau.
