Cancelled racing on Thursday.

Not enough Relaunch offspring available to run.
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Today is a huge racing day, but I swear TVG has some clueless intern handling production duties at the studio. We've had parts of commercials breaking into interviews, ad soundtracks running over the running of a race from Gulfstream, and completely missed horses in a "post parade" in the upcoming 2nd at Santa Anita. :?

LOS ANGELES (CN) – A former partner of a California thoroughbred horse racing company is suing the company for $40 million for a breach of contract, according to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday.

Keith Brackpool, British-American investor, worked for the Stronach Group for five years and says he was promised to be reimbursed a 5 percent buyout for his interest in the company.

Workout incident has shut down the main track at Santa Anita. I didn’t see it, but it involved multiple horses in the backstretch. Track has been shut down for around 20 minutes. One horse walked off, another is still on the ground.

There’s a group of people standing around the fallen horse, like they’re waiting for him to get up. One of the strangest things I’ve seen at the track.

Horse keeps moving his head, and the track workers keep trying to encourage him to get up, but have so far been unsuccessful. Odd scene.

Horse has been down more than an hour now. They’ve rolled him over and appear to be continuing to encourage him occasionally to get to his feet.

Horse was on his chest and appeared to be trying to get up. He’s back on his side now.

Latest update.....

Two and a half hours in and the horse is still down. Being attended to by at least a dozen people.

He’s off the track. Was down on the dirt for about three hours. He was moved while still on his side. Equine ambulance is moving him off the racetrack.

The horse who went down today during training was Xten. Trainer Tim Yakteen says the colt is going to be euthanized. They tried to save him because he had neurological function and was moving his limbs while he was on the track. Neurological issues have come up since, however.

21m21 minutes ago
Xten was working in company when a horse in front of the group ducked in toward the rail. Xten and exercise rider Baltazar Contreras were unable to avoid the horse in front of them. Contreras has a fractured knee, according to Yakteen.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Santa Anita post times return to normal starting Thursday, when the track resumes a uniform first-post schedule of 12:30 p.m. every racing day including Sundays. The exceptions are Triple Crown days; first post at Santa Anita on Kentucky Derby day is noon.

The decision to make the move comes six weeks after Santa Anita changed post times to noon, with 11:30 a.m. on Sundays. In a prepared statement, Santa Anita stated that earlier post times did not negatively influence handle. However, the track received feedback that suggested fans and industry participants favor a uniform, later post time.

I wonder what sort of injury it was to have that awful outcome, as it looked like Garcia pulled her up quickly.
Nicely-bred three-year-old who was talked about as a future stakes horse. Rough game.

Sorry to hear about Amada Rafaela. Just read an article about her earlier this week in which Baffert mentioned that he thought she was special.

ARCADIA, Calif. (June 24, 2018)–With a closing day Pick Six pool of $6,022,040 adding an exclamation point to the conclusion of Santa Anita’s Winter/Spring Meet, all sources pari-mutuel handle for the 102-day run dating back to Dec. 26, exceeded the $1 billion mark, an eight percent increase over a year ago. With on-track attendance showing a one percent increase, Sunday’s all sources handle of $18,534,801, which included a near-$10 million increase over the corresponding date from a year ago, helped to contribute to a meet-end handle total of $1,018,268,136.

Due to a more than $75 million increase in overall handle, Santa Anita announced a purse increase of 10 percent, effective June 1 through closing day, which facilitated in attracting larger, more competitive fields to close the meet out.

“We’ve said this consistently, our customers are the economic engine that drives our business,” said Tim Ritvo, Chief Operating Officer for The Stronach Group (TSG). “We want to sincerely thank all of our fans, those here on-track and around the country for supporting our racing in such a substantial way from late December through today.

The Stronach Group’s Tim Ritvo says Santa Anita’s Pick 6 will move to a 20-cent jackpot wager for its fall meet. He doesn’t, however, say it will necessarily be permanent. He called it an “experiment” and acknowledged there might be blowback from players who like the $2 wager.

Santa Anita is proceeding with plans to build 800 stalls on a parking lot adjacent to the racetrack, officials told the California Horse Racing Board on Thursday.

Track executive Scott Daruty told the racing board that Santa Anita is seeking full approval from the city of Arcadia in coming weeks and would like to begin construction this winter on a yearlong project. Santa Anita is seeking to house 800 horses currently based at Los Alamitos.

The new barns would increase stabling capacity at Santa Anita to approximately 2,600.

Increased on-track stabling should make it easier on the horses who have to ship from Los Al or training facilities, and maybe having greater capacity will attract more trainers/horses.
On a more sober note, Ritvo may also be looking to a future when Doc Allred is no longer around to keep Los Al going. Unless he has an heir/buyer who loves the QH game as much as he does, I suspect that track is going to end up with condos instead of stalls, sooner rather than later. :(

Well, Doc Allred had something to say on the subject, and he doesn't seem very happy with Santa Anita. I don't blame him.
Allred On Los Al: ‘This Venue Will Remain A Racetrack’
“There are no intentions for Los Alamitos Race Course to be developed and this venue will remain a racetrack. There could be some development on the land surrounding Los Alamitos Race Course, but this in no way will impact the year-round racing operation. My passion is for horse racing to be held at Los Alamitos Race Course and this will always be true. The track will remain open for stabling Thoroughbreds so long as we are needed.
“Santa Anita on February 1, 2018 gave the required two-year notice to terminate the stabling of Thoroughbred horses at Los Alamitos. This was done at the option of Santa Anita. Los Alamitos spent millions of dollars on a rush basis to enlarge the racetrack and provide stabling. Again, the agreement is being terminated by Santa Anita and not Los Alamitos Race Course.”
