I see that TVG announcer Ron Ellis is back at work, does he have any horses?
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

I had read that he has submitted a request for stalls at Santa Anita, so he's apparently trying to rebuild his stable. I hope his clients flock back to him, and I love seeing him back on a TVG desk at the track.

Quarter Horse jockey Cesar Gomez is one of two individuals found dead at the site of a plane crash in Oklahoma, reports stallionesearch.com. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol found the crash site at 7 a.m. on Monday, and both passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford, the plane crashed at about 10 p.m. on Sunday. It had requested permission to land at El Reno due to inclement weather, according to news9.com. It was reported missing after both radio and radar contact were lost; the National Transportation Safety Board will be in charge of the investigation.

Gomez began his professional riding career in 2014, and his best year was in 2015 working for trainer Kasey Willis. He piloted One Fabulous Eagle to a second-place finish in Quarter Horse racing's richest race, the $3 million All American Futurity, and won the All American Gold Cup aboard Rock You.

The bad news just won't stop. :(
Pat Smullen out for foreseeable future after discovery of a tumour
Pat Smullen is facing a long spell on the sidelines after medical tests carried out in recent days on the nine-time Irish champion jockey revealed his illness is more serious than first thought.
Smullen, 40, missed his rides at Dundalk on Friday and on the opening day of the turf season at Naas on Sunday.
In a statement issued to the Racing Post on Wednesday, Smullen said: "Most people will have been aware that I have been in hospital in recent days undergoing tests.
"I was showing some of the symptoms associated with a gallstone problem but it was discovered that the problem was more serious.
"A tumour was discovered and consequently I won't be riding for the foreseeable future. It's a new challenge for me and it's one I am fully focused on overcoming.

I hope I'm wrong but...isn't cancer of the gall bladder really bad?

It didn't take Ron Ellis long to get back in the game. His Lightning Dove just won the down-the-hill 7th at Santa Anita.
Welcome back, Ron. :D

Exercise rider Valenzuela severely injured in spill
ARCADIA, Calif. – Exercise rider Adrian Valenzuela sustained a spinal-cord injury in a spill at Santa Anita on Saturday and did not have feeling in his legs on Sunday morning, according to his father, trainer Martin Valenzuela.

Adrian Valenzuela, 21, was scheduled to undergo surgery on Monday at Huntington Memorial hospital in Pasadena, his father said.

Martin Valenzuela said Adrian suffered a “fractured back.” Doctors have told Martin Valenzuela that his son could be paralyzed from the waist down.

“They have to get some inflammation out of his back,” he said. “Hopefully, the feeling will come back to his legs, but they said it’s a small chance.”

The injury occurred when Adrian Valenzuela worked a horse for trainer Bobby Wayne Grayson. One of the bandages on the horse’s front legs became unraveled, causing the horse to stumble and fall, Martin Valenzuela said. Martin Valenzuela works closely with Grayson.

“The bandage came off,” Martin Valenzuela said. “I don’t know if it ripped.”

Adrian Valenzuela has worked primarily as an exercise rider in recent years. He rode briefly at the Los Alamitos night meeting in 2016, winning one race from eight mounts.

“He got a little heavy,” Martin Valenzuela said.

Another rider badly injured. I wish the bad news would stop. :(
Does the PDJF help exercise riders like Adrian, or does it have to limit its assistance to those who are injured in races, or at least have an active jockey license?

That's awful. I hope Valenzuela is able to regain some feeling in his legs.

Javier Castellano sure does give good interviews before or after a race.

On Steve Haskin's FB page

According to Javier Castellano's agent Mike Lakow, Castellano will ride Audible in the Ky. Derby and Johnny Velazquez will ride Vino Rosso. That leaves Bolt d'Oro open. Also leaves Noble Indy open.
