HOTY
Gun Runner

2 yr olds
Bolt
Rushing Fall

3 yr olds
wow i actually don't care abt the males at all. i guess west coast. i dunno.
abel tasman and unique bella are both strong choices, but bella was out for so long. AT had a better BC finish, but bella had an extra win in the la brea, but it was her first g1 win vs AT's 4. so... i guess AT?

Older
Gun Runner
Stellar Wind

Sprint
another one i'm not really stable on...
Biscuits and
...Paula, despite her tailing off in her last two starts (tho the BC was such a weird 2 days i sswear we were in another universe that day).
**admittedly, roy h is a fine candidate and i went with sentiment in choosing biscuits over him.

Turf
World Approval
Lady Eli

(i don't like voting for horses who only started here once when we have strong horses who run here all year)

Steeplechase
how cool is it to see Mr Hot Stuff's name? i don't follow steeplechasing. i choose him.

Trainer
yknow. i kinda want to see chad brown get it.

My scorecard is the same as Ballerina's with the exception of Paulassilverlining for Female Sprinter. Regarding some of my choices:

Roy H -- This is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately kind of game, and Roy H got his game together in the latter half of the season with victories in the True North, Santa Anita Sprint Championship and BC Sprint (with a second in the Bing Crosby as well).

World Approval -- It's not unheard of for Europeans to walk away with an Eclipse off of one winning effort in the BC but World Approval's resume this year is too strong to ignore. In addition to the BC Mile he also took home the Woodbine Mile, Fourstardave and Dixie Stakes.

West Coast -- The only one left standing in a bad and inconsistent bunch of three-year-olds. His third-place finish in the Classic was enough to seal the deal.

Paulassilverlining
-- Goes against the whole what-have-you-done-for-me-lately thing but no one else in this division stepped it up in the latter half of the year when she was regressing. I think her two grade I's and single grade II earlier in the season are a lot more than the other nominees have going for them, especially considering Unique Bella's only grade I tally was against her own age group.

Forever Unbridled should be older mare, she beat the other 2 that are nominated.

Camarero, San Luis Rey Responders To Receive Special Eclipse Award
In recognition of countless acts of heroism, bravery, and benevolence in the face of tragedy, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA), Daily Racing Form and the National Turf Writers and Broadcasters (NTWAB) today announced that the Special Eclipse Award will be awarded to all responders who assisted in mitigating the year's worst racehorse-related disasters – the hurricane that left more than 800 Thoroughbreds stranded with limited food and clean water at Puerto Rico's Hipódromo Camarero in September and the wildfire that claimed 46 Thoroughbreds at Southern California's San Luis Rey Training Center in December.

Of all the awards that will be handed out during the Eclipse Awards ceremony, these will be the most deserved.

In all fairness, if I'm not mistaken every single winner of the BCJF or almost has gone on to win champion 2yo filly honours.

doesn't mean the choice makes sense. 2yo colt winner doesn't make sense either but here we are.
of course, ultimately, these are opinions, and bulk opinion wins (as it should be)

True, I'm just saying the result is not entirely surprising if you consider the trend.
I also I understand the logic behind Good Magic winning even if I am unsure whether I agree with said logic.
However I think when it comes to 2yos the body of work is becoming increasingly limited and it's less based on how many victories overall are had, and more based on who beat who (as well as on what day).
Why should Caledonia Road lose Championship honors to two fillies she hasn't lost to, and whom she beat on the biggest stage for the division? Likewise with Good Magic, and given the dominant style he did it in I can understand the opinion that he should be crowned.

I think these results would be far more non-sensical if both of these had been beaten by the other finalists in previous efforts but didn't have any additional G1 victories to show for it.

Like I said I'm undecided if I whole-heartedly agree with said logic, but it is at the very least an understandable line of thinking.
