Well, this sucks! Heal well, girl.

Champagne Room may be retired with foot injury
Champagne Room, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2016, is sidelined with a foot injury and may be retired to be bred, trainer Peter Eurton said Thursday.

Eurton said Champagne Room faces a 90-day rest caused by a hairline fracture in a foot and that the filly’s owners are debating whether to keep her in training.

“They’re considering some offers for her,” Eurton said. “If we did decide to keep her in training, she won’t race again until July.”

Eurton said the foot injury was detected earlier this week.

“We had to put a bar shoe on it to give it support,” he said. “We’ll X-ray it again in 90 days. She’s not in any danger. They could wait and race her.”

Champagne Room is owned by a partnership that includes Sharon Alesia, Ciaglia Racing, Exline-Border Racing, and Gulliver Racing. By Broken Vow, Champagne Room has won 3 of 9 starts and earned $1,490,660.

Champagne Room earned her championship with an upset win in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita in November 2016. She was sidelined with an ankle injury last February and returned to win the Remington Park Oaks in Oklahoma City last September.

Champagne Room was sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Del Mar on Nov. 3 and second in the Grade 2 Bayakoa Stakes at Los Alamitos on Dec. 3 in her latest start. She was in training for the Grade 3 Sam Houston Ladies Classic on Jan. 28.

A report on the retirement of Champagne Room, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2016. #santaanita #drf

Champagne Room retired, sold to Japanese interests
Champagne Room, the champion 2-year-old filly of 2016, has been retired and sold privately to Japanese interests, trainer Peter Eurton said Wednesday.

Champagne Room was recently diagnosed with a hairline fracture in a foot that would have required a lengthy recovery time. Last week, Eurton said the partnership that owns the filly was contemplating a private sale, or keeping Champagne Room in training.

On Wednesday, Eurton said Champagne Room is at his stable at Santa Anita but is expected to be exported to Japan in coming weeks.

BC Juvenile Fillies winner Caledonia Road "about a month behind" following ankle surgery, per trainer Ralph Nicks
Caledonia Road, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies and a top contender for the Eclipse Award in that division, which is to be announced on Thursday night, is “about a month behind” getting set for her 3-year-old debut after having surgery to remove a small chip from a front ankle, trainer Ralph Nicks said Wednesday morning at Gulfstream Park.

Cache a 3yo daughter of Distorted Humour just won her debut at Gulfstream in a loaded maiden. She ran going away in spite of running very greenly in the stretch, after having taken a lot of dirt to the face. One to watch.
The runner up, Takechargedelilah (by Take Charge Indy) also made a good account of herself and was far ahead of the rest of the field.

Unique Bella got her 2018 campaign off to a fine start by winning the 1 1/16-mile G2 Santa Maria in dominating fashion. Went to the front and improved her position. Definitely not just a sprinter. :D
Wrona remarked that all the field saw of 'Bella were her 'capacious hindquarters.' Also admired her '1,200-lb. horsepower' as she galloped past the wire.

Unique Bella is a monster, and I think she’s better stretching out.

She probably got that award because she really was the best 3-year-old, but she missed the most important races of the year. The Sprinter award was a consolation prize. I love the horse and think she’s awesome, but her winning the Sprinter award was a head scratcher.

Unique Bella had more raw ability than any other three-year-old filly last year but she really didn’t show herself to be a true racehorse as opposed to just a runner until the La Brea. Up until then she was rank in pretty much every race and when she won, it was because of more talent. She was awesome yesterday mainly because she showed she could relax on the lead and wasn’t just a bull in a china shop. The next step will be to see what happens when she comes up against Paradise Wood again but going two turns. I also suspect that Baffert is combing his barn for potential long-eared rodents for when Abel Tasman is put in against her.

She beat Abel pretty easy if I recall.
