I love that photo of the big, black, long-legged beauty Midnight Disguise winning the Bouwerie Stakes yesterday. I think 7 furlongs may be her best distance like her sire.

For me, the female line is the amazing story here.

Definitely... I just really like Lute, and can’t get over her resemblance of him. The family is a gem, and I loved Naughty New Yorker!

Grade 1 winner Fault, who was pointing to the June 2 Ogden Phipps, suffered a non-displaced condylar fracture in her left hind today during a routine gallop, according to trainer Phil D'Amato. She'll have surgery tomorrow. Ownership will decide if she races again or is retired.

The Ogden Phipps is June 9, obviously. Struggling with the keyboard today.

Small field for the Woodbine Oaks and Wonder Gadot looks to be a beast, but I’m rooting for Dixie Moon.

Midnight Disguise sidelined due to ankle injury
The multiple stakes winning New York-bred 3-year-old filly Midnight Disguise will miss the summer races due to an ankle injury, trainer Linda Rice said.

Midnight Disguise will get 60 days off after filling was discovered in an ankle shortly after her victory in the Bouwerie Stakes here on May 28, Rice said Thursday.

“She came out with a little filling in an ankle, we decided to stop on her and give her some time, she’s accomplished a lot,” Rice said. “She’s a big filly, I’m thinking we’ll be shooting for Belmont when we get back in the fall.”

Midnight Disguise won the Busher and Busanda Stakes at Aqueduct during the winter. After finishing fourth in the Grade 2 Gazelle at Aqueduct, Midnight Disguise was removed from consideration for the Kentucky Oaks. She was entered in but scratched from the Black-Eyed Susan at Pimlico on May 19 due to a bruise foot.

Midnight Disguise recovered in time to run in and win the Bouwerie Stakes for New York-breds on May 28.

Meanwhile, Holiday Disguise, the older half-sister to Midnight Disguise, is pointing to the Dancin Renee Stakes for New York-breds here on June 16.

Paradise Woods on brief vacation

Paradise Woods is in the midst of a vacation following a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Beholder Mile at Santa Anita on June 2.

Trainer Richard Mandella said on Wednesday that Paradise Woods has been turned out at Julie Adair-Stack’s local layup facility. Paradise Woods is expected to return to Mandella’s stable this month and is being considered for the Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes at 1 1/16 miles at Del Mar on July 29.

Mandella said turf races or a sprint are other immediate possibilities for Paradise Woods, who won two Grade 1 races in 2017.

American Gal to undergo tests
American Gal is scheduled to undergo a battery of precautionary tests after finishing last of five in the Grade 3 Bed o’ Roses as a heavy favorite at Belmont Park on June 8.

“We’re being ultra-conservative,” trainer Simon Callaghan said. “We’re running tests in the next few days.”

Owned by Kaleem Shah, American Gal struck the gate at the start of the $250,000 Bed o’ Roses for fillies and mares at seven furlongs. The 4-year-old filly was third for the first half-mile before fading to finish 12 3/4 lengths behind Lewis Bay.

Callaghan said “missing the break and getting in tight” contributed to the loss.
