Calculator has become a burly, nearly-white handsome hunk of a sprinter. If he gets tired of charging down The Hill, he could probably get a second job as a knight's charger at Medieval Times.

Hoppertunity to miss San Pasqual Stakes with foot abscess
Hoppertunity, a multiple stakes-winning millionaire, will miss Saturday’s Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita while undergoing treatment for an abscess in a foot. Trainer Bob Baffert said the abscess was detected Tuesday. Entries for the $200,000 San Pasqual Stakes at 1 1/8 miles for older horses were taken Wednesday.

Baffert said on Wednesday that there isn’t enough time to get Hoppertunity ready for the San Pasqual.

“He looks good today, but it’s too close,” Baffert said.

Undefeated One Liner returns, Chilean grade I winner Big Daddy, and of course Mind Your Biscuits. It's a short field but one heckuva one at that.

I'm looking forward to this race. Is Mind Your Biscuits headed back to Dubai next month to defend his Golden Shaheen title?

Mind Your Biscuits and the other big names were upset by Conquest Windycity, who went out fast and never backed up.

World Approval won the Tampa Bay, but two horses went down going into the last turn in tight quarters. They bounced up and were trotting off last I saw, so maybe they clipped heels or slipped on the grass? Not sure about the riders. :(

World Approval (1-5f, @ljlmvel) wins G3 Tampa Bay S. by about a length for @markecasse in a race marred by two fallen riders, Antonio Gallardo and Manny Cruz. Both jocks still down near quarter-pole. Both horses ran thru the wire and seem OK. 7-6-3-9. Will report back asap.

Just announced here @TampaBayDownsFL that both jockeys have escaped serious injury, with Cruz transported to a nearby hospital for observation and Gallardo returning to the jockeys' room after being shaken up. Good news all in all.

First stakes win since he was a 3 year old in 2015, and he beat American Pharoah in AP's maiden race in Aug 2014. Earnings are now more that $1 mil. Good to see Dan Hendricks get him back to his best form.

I thought Forge ran a courageous race running after the champ. More distance and he might have caught him.

Very satisfying to see Om to return to the winner's circle -- he's run some terrific races in defeat for almost two years now.

World Approval isn't going to Dubai after all.
Trainer Mark Casse told Marty McGee of the DRF on Monday that while World Approval came out of the race in good shape, he believes the distance of the Dubai Turf may be a bit too much for the gelding.
“The Dubai race is almost nine furlongs, which stretches us,” Casse said. “We've said all along a mile is his best play. You might be able to get away with it sometimes, but probably not when you're up against the best horses in the world like he would be in Dubai.”
“He's a champion, and we're going to take care of him.”
World Approval will now be pointed to the G1 Maker's 46 Mile at Keeneland April 13, with a possible start in the March 10 G1 Frank E. Kilroe Mile at Santa Anita in between.

I've always found it strange that Dubai's World Cup card does not have a one-mile turf race. It's such a classic distance. :?
