When a horse has my initials as part of his name, my attention is captured. :-)
I totally missed Starine's post... woops!
I first noticed this colt at the yearling sales as I was absolutely blown away by his presence and his intelligent eye, his poise. I hadn't realised the reason he was sideline was due to an injury I was following his progress eagerly.

Hopefully he isn't hyped up for no reason... like someone else we know (Go Giants). :?

Flameaway (Scat Daddy - Vulcan Rose | Fusaichi Pegasus) just won the Kitten's Joy Stakes at Gulfstream. Led most of the way and then looked like he was about to swamped by the rest of the field...but he had more in the tank and kept the lead. Beautiful red chestnut, which is probably where he got his name. ;)

The Tapit colt Mask just won the Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream so easily that I think he could have gone around again. ;) :P
The handsome bay will probably show up next in one of Gulfstream's graded stakes for three-year-olds.

Santa Anita's stakes for three-year-olds, the G3 Sham, was just won in a hand-ride romp by the favored McKinzie. Looks like Baffert/Smith may have a real nice colt with real Derby potential.

He is one of the survivor of the San Luis Rey fire. Did not know that but he's such a cutie.

The Take Charge Indy colt, Noble Indy, won the 9th at Gulfstream, a 1 1/16-mile AOC full of well-bred colts. Repole-owned and Pletcher-trained, he dueled with the pretty, pricey, Coolmore colt, Mississippi (Pioneerof the Nile), down the lane to take the race, and IMO both colts look to have a bright future.
If he gets a runner in the Kentucky Derby gate, do you think that would earn Take Charge Indy a trip back home from South Korea? :?

Winstar dropped him like a hot potato, didn’t give him a second chance because his sales were bad and they weren’t overly spectacular individuals. I hope he continues to prove them wrong.

Pioneerof the Nile over Storm Cat... Coolmore is really all in on this cross.

As for Take Charge Indy, if anything SK would want to hang on to him even more, no? A stateside breeder would have to make an offer they couldn't refuse. I too, hope he continues to prove WinStar wrong.

Highly-hyped Nero, who was single-handedly responsible for Martin Garcia's departure for New York by losing his debut, won in his second try, although he raced greenly in upper stretch and Victor Espinoza was apparently under orders not to use the whip--in fact he didn't start urging the horse until 50 yards before the wire, just getting up by a nose over stablemate Curly's Rocket, the pacesetter. Core Beliefs, by Elusive Quality, closed well and this looks like a strong race.

Nero is a half to Ocean Knight. He's reportedly something of a head case, You might say he was just fiddling around in the stretch.*

*Not original to me, I admit. Comment was on another board.
I ran marathons. I saw the Taj Mahal by Moonlight. I drove Highway 1 in a convertible. I petted Zenyatta.

The two points-earning races today for the three-year-olds were the Jerome in NY (where they actually got in a full day of racing!!) and the Lecomte at the Fairgrounds.
Firenze Fire squeaked out a win in the Jerome, in what seemed to me to be a just OK performance. But that track was icky, so maybe we can't hold it against him?

I didn't see the Lecomte, but apparently the Cali shipper Instilled Regard was an impressive winner.

I'm still thinking Ax Man and Mask are the most memorable colts I've seen so far this year.

I was hoping for a big effort from Instilled Regard. I just love his pedigree: A grandson of Heavenly Prize by Arch.

Read on another board that Bolt d'Oro did not look good galloping yesterday. Anybody have any info (or gossip)?

Owner/trainer Mick Ruis says Bolt d'Oro is scheduled to get his first breeze of 2018 Jan. 27 at Santa Anita. Delay came because of some body soreness, but nuclear scans have been clean. Still looking at the San Felipe (G2) March 10 for 3yo debut.
