To clarify earlier info on Sharp Azteca, Ron Paolucci is leasing his spot in Pegasus to Sharp Azteca while he will run War Story, in which he is a partner, to one of the spots Frank Stronach owns in the race. More details shortly on DRF Live.

Just got word from Ron Paolucci that he has completed a deal with Ivan Rodriguez to run Sharp Azteca in one of his 2 spots in thePegasus World Cup. "The contract has gone to my attorney and should be finalized tomorrow" Paolucci will still run his own War Story, in his 2nd spot.

I'm glad that an arrangement has been made for Sharp Azteca. That horse deserves a spot in the gate.

Nothing about this horse says I'm getting the distance so..

I'm glad he's in, he's really good and I kind of like the sprinter/miler vs. classic distance horse angle for this race. Gives it a different feel from the Classic.

So I guess that means that Mike Smith is still on Collected? Hopefully he has a Plan B if he slips coming out of the gate.

Fear the Cowboy Confirmed for Pegasus World Cup
Well-traveled Fear the Cowboy, a three-time stakes winner at Gulfstream Park, has been confirmed as the 11th starter in the $16 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) to be run Jan. 27.

Fear the Cowboy, co-owned by Raffaele Centofanti and Kathleen Amaya, will run in the Pegasus for the partnership of Stronach Stables, and Ronald and Jerry Frankel. The 6-year-old son of Cowboy Cal trained by Efren Loza Jr. had a strong 2017 season compiling a 4-3-1 record in 10 starts. Two of those victories last year came in stakes at Gulfstream Park, the March 25 Skip Away Stakes (G3) and the Dec. 16 Harlan's Holiday Stakes (G3).

The Pegasus will be the first start in a grade 1 race for Fear the Cowboy. Since Loza took over the training of the horse in 2015, he has started at 12 tracks in nine states.

I'm off! Sunshine, Toast and a cool $16m lure Dettori to Florida early
Frankie Dettori has had enough of the cold weather in Britain and will head out to Miami earlier than originally planned in order to prepare for his ride on fancied outsider Toast Of New York in the $16 million Pegasus World Cup a week on Saturday.

Dettori partnered the 2014 Breeders' Cup Classic runner-up when he made a successful return from 1,130 days off the track in a conditions race at Lingfield last month, but the jockey had since taken it easy until returning for one ride at Kempton on Tuesday night.

He had two more rides on a bitterly cold afternoon at Lingfield on Wednesday and went close on the second of them, Toolatetodelegate.

Dettori remains very much a Mediterranean at heart despite more than 30 years in Britain and although he wrapped up as warm as he could, complete with a bandit-style mask over his lower face, he is ready for warmer climes.

"I'm going early as the weather here is so disgusting and I want to get acclimatised," he said. "Last week was fine, but now I might as well be there as here."

I honestly would love to see Toast run well. He likely won't beat Gun Runner, but I think he has the goods to take 2nd or 3rd if he's back to form against the rest of these.
