Dallas Stewart said Forever Unbridled, the Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner who was under Pegasus consideration, won’t start in the race. Forever Unbridled worked on Dec. 11, but Stewart said he has no plans to work the mare in coming days, and that he was slowing down her training right now. Stewart said plans call for Forever Unbridled to race again in 2018.

Stronach's own royally-bred Singing Bullet (Hard Spun x Life At Ten) runs in an optional claimer at Gulfstream tomorrow. He may run in the Pegasus if he turns in a good effort per trainer Dale Romans:
Singing Bullet enters his 3-year-old finale off a 3 1/4-length optional-claiming victory over Conquest Windycity going a mile last month at Churchill Downs, for which he earned a career-best 95 Beyer Speed Figure.

As for the Pegasus World Cup, Romans said a good performance here Friday could earn Singing Bullet a slot in the event on Jan. 27.

“I know he doesn’t have the credentials of a lot of those horses who’ll be in the race, but we’re a horse going up and maybe we can catch some of the others going down,” Romans said. “Strange things can happen in a race like that, as we know.”

Just watched tape of Sharp Azteca work had him from the 1/2 in 22.20, 46.12 out 5/8's in 58.75 didn't pull up until he was back past the half-mile pole again. Very impressive.

I was curious to see how he did, so I checked the Gulfstream results. He finished 4th, so I doubt that The Pegasus is in his future. :P

Add Giant Expectations to the field. TVG just announced that his connections have entered into an agreement with the Stronach Group. Just two openings left.

Sharp Azteca is a beast. Not sure he's a 9f beast, but if he goes, Gun Runner is going to have some company. . .

Can he carry his talent that far? It's hard to say, but being by Freud with Saint Liam and Conquistador Cielo on the bottom certainly can't hurt.

And sometimes trainers can outrun breeding!

To clarify earlier info on Sharp Azteca, Ron Paolucci is leasing his spot in Pegasus to Sharp Azteca while he will run War Story, in which he is a partner, to one of the spots Frank Stronach owns in the race. More details shortly on DRF Live.

Just got word from Ron Paolucci that he has completed a deal with Ivan Rodriguez to run Sharp Azteca in one of his 2 spots in thePegasus World Cup. "The contract has gone to my attorney and should be finalized tomorrow" Paolucci will still run his own War Story, in his 2nd spot.

I'm glad that an arrangement has been made for Sharp Azteca. That horse deserves a spot in the gate.

Nothing about this horse says I'm getting the distance so..

I'm glad he's in, he's really good and I kind of like the sprinter/miler vs. classic distance horse angle for this race. Gives it a different feel from the Classic.

Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride Sharp Azteca in the Pegasus World Cup, Javier Castellano to stay with West Coast per agents for both riders.

So I guess that means that Mike Smith is still on Collected? Hopefully he has a Plan B if he slips coming out of the gate.
