She's not #1, but Cesario, "the Japanese whirlwind," will always be tops in my heart. 8-) Still enamored with her dominating American Oaks victory and I'm so chuffed she has gone on to become a successful broodmare.

As much as I love Vodka, I have to credit Buena Vista for hooking me on Japanese racing. I was SO MAD when she was DQ'd from the Japan Cup & Rose Kingdom given the win...

What a lovely idea to feature Japanese racing's top fillies & mares. If the studs can get their own calendar it seems only fair.

I suspect that Cesario's ranking (#7) in this fans voting was undermined by her short career as a racehorse.
It was very unfortunate that her overwhelming victory in the American Oaks at 3 became her last race. She had to retire from racing due to ligament injury with a life-time record of 6-5-1-0.
I personally believe that Cesario has been the most talented filly of all time in Japan.
And I'm very happy to see her talent being passed down to her sons.

Buena Vista is definitely my all-time best, even if I still respect my filly Daiwa Scarlet, haha! ;)

Overall, I have no complaints about the top ten fillies selected by the fans in this voting. :D
I'm glad that the monster filly Hishi Amazon still hangs in #6.

He seems like such a good-natured horse. Maybe he's only a ham when a camera is around, but he just looks so relaxed around his people. Perhaps he's the Japanese American Pharoah? ;)
I'm going to miss watching him run, but it will be fun when his babies hit the track. :D

SOUL STIRRING to run at ROYAL ASCOT this year and then after that the Breeders Cup (likely turf or F&M) at Churchill Downs. @LongBallToNoOne

She is going to start her 2018 campaign in Gr1 Victoria Mile in May.

A steeplechaser got HOY votes and there was only one abstention in the Steeplechase category. If only our Eclipse voters cared that much about the division.

I suspect that steeplechase races are more popular in Japan than in North America.
But it's very very rare that a steeplechaser gets HOY votes. (I had never seen like this before...)
Oju Chosan(JPN) is a real-star jumper who accomplished an unprecedented four consecutive Jump-G1 victories.
His latest performance against archrival Up to Date(JPN) in the Nakayama Daishogai with a new record time was especially moving as he had suffered a chip fracture in Spring.
If he gets another G1 win or two this year, he may become the second steeplechaser in JRA history to be inducted into the Japanese Hall of Fame, the first and the only Hall of Famer being Grand Marchs(JPN) 1969H.
