NYRA is the best racing product in the country, overall. I imagine the facetime alone is worth it.

Mirahmadi told the DRF that he was “overwhelmingly excited” to get the NYRA offer.

“This is one of the best opportunities there is in racing,” Mirahmadi said. “When NYRA calls there are two things to say, “yes, please, and thank you very much.”

C'mon Matt, where's your loyalty? We'll miss you, but a reluctant congratulations. Don't forget us <sniff>.

Golden Gate Press‏ @GGPublicity
Matt Dinerman (@3coltshandicap) will be the new announcer at @GGFracing as of the 26th of December, GGF management announced today. The position attracted strong, experienced candidates both nationally & internationally. Story to follow.

I figured that was coming since he's been the back-up announcer there and on screen handicapper. He's still a little rough around the edges but he's improved a lot. Good for him though, there are certainly worse things in life than working and living in the Bay Area most of the year.

Yeah, I think we all saw it coming. Matt learned a lot through his gig here and I'm happy for him to get the promotion. Besides announcing, he was a great ambassador for EMD. He'd be all over the backside in the mornings and on dark days and at every special event, talking to all and charming both people and horses, a genuinely nice young man. He brought new ideas like those Twitter live videos he did while actually calling a race, and he really appealed to the younger crowd that we know are so important to racing's future. I wish him much success and just hope we can find a similar 'jewel in the rough' to replace him.

Tom Harris Named Track Announcer
Emerald Downs Racetrack and Casino has announced Tom Harris as the track’s new full-time announcer.

Harris, who begins his duties Sunday, April 22, 2018, becomes only the third announcer in the track’s 21-year history. He succeeds Matt Dinerman, who was announced earlier this week as the new voice of Golden Gate Fields.

“Announcing horse races have been a lifelong passion for me, and the opportunity to announce at Emerald Downs is a dream come true,” Harris said. “I have enormous respect for the tradition of the sport in the Pacific Northwest, and the many fine horsemen and horsewomen in the area. I can’t wait to get started.”

Harris, a 55-year-old Dallas native, has extensive race-calling experience. Currently announcer at Portland Meadows, Harris also has announced races at Sam Houston Race Park, Retama Park, Playfair, Yakima Meadows, Zia Park, San Juan Downs, Albuquerque, Yellowstone Downs, Garden State Park and La Mesa Park. He worked last season for Emerald Downs in the broadcast and promotions departments, calling several races closing week.
