Jockey Club Gold Cup

Jockey Club Gold Cup

Just did a long write up on this race horse by horse and lost it somehow while submitting. Truly your loss, because it was full of sharp wit and sharp opinion. Reminded me of the days when Dustin and Thinair were prominent with good opinions and counter opinions.

Unfortunately, you have to settle for the Readers Digest version now....sorry for those that care.

Pavel - stalks diversify, and gallops by around turn then holds off the closers comfortably to stamp himself the improving 3yo with a shot in the Classic.
Destin/Keen Ice/Good Samaritan fight it out for the minor spoils.

Against Rally Cry and Diversify and both were stingily rebuked in the narrative.

Good luck all.

I remember Readers Digest...I wonder how many here know what it was?
There was usually an Ogden Nash poem, IIRC. ;)

Andy Serling‏ @andyserling

As much as I want to pick NY Bred Diversify in the #Belmont 10th, the @jockeyclub Gold Cup, I have to think at least one of Pletcher's...
..runners, Rally Cry and/or Destin, will keep him honest early, and @DonegalRacing's Keen Ice may just be too good, especially at the...
..distance. Todd has done a great job getting him back to the top of his game. Pavel is very good, and has run well in all of his races...
..but this may be a tall task, and I think 3YO Good Samaritan may have a better chance to get big piece here. 7-1-3-4 #Belmont 10th.

1 Diversify (NY) 4/G L I Ortiz, Jr. 126 R A Violette, Jr. 7/2
2 Highland Sky (KY) 4/C L R Maragh 126 B Tagg 20/1
3 Good Samaritan (KY) 3/C L J Rosario 122 W I Mott 8/1
4 Pavel (KY) 3/C L M Gutierrez 122 D F O'Neill 5/2
5 Rally Cry (KY) 4/C L J R Velazquez 126 T A Pletcher 6/1
6 Destin (KY) 4/C L L Saez 126 T A Pletcher 12/1
7 Keen Ice (KY) 5/H L J L Ortiz 126 T A Pletcher 9/5
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

Has Keen Ice always been in Todd's barn?

Negative. He was with Dale Romans for most of his career, prior to Donegal switching him to Pletcher at some point in 2016 (I believe).

Yeah he moved after coming back from Dubai in 2016.

Not the strongest edition so I give the nod to up-and-coming sophomore Pavel.

Really interested to see what Destin does here -- when was the last time he ran?
