Bob Baffert holds a strong hand but didn’t scare off the competition in the $1 million races at Parx Racing on Saturday. He will send out West Coast in the Pennsylvania Derby and Abel Tasman in the Cotillion. Both will be favored.

Is that a bad or good thing?
I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

I guess that depends on if you the one getting paid, or a local horseman watching potential purse money leave town.....

Will this be streamed live anywhere ( without having a betting account)? Thanks!

I honestly kind of hate the PA Derby because of how it allows top-class 3yos to duck older horses when they really should be facing open company. Why are there age-restricted G1s after August? Don't hate this one so much because Irap at 3-1 is a steal (whereas you couldn't pay me to bet Timeline at any price, and he's 5-1). West Coast can rate but he's stuck between the speed and there's no way he gets a clear lead with Timeline and IWC in there, and Irap ran a pretty excellent race in the Travers despite a poor ride. Should be able to relax off a contested pace and pounce turning for home.

If they did, I say congrats to the organizers, it wouldn't have been much fun watching a match race between Talk Logistics and Game Over for Plesa and Navarro!

Brown, Pletcher, O'Neill, Baffert, Motion, Zito, Romans is a lot of appearance money if they really did pay, but a much better race for a National audience.

Without the shippers, a lot of these Graded Stakes would lose their rank by the committee somewhere down the road, they should be thankful not resentful.

I doubt they paid them all, but Baffert is famous for going where he gets paid, especially when he has a star. These kind of races don't do much for me. At this time of year, it is just an easy payday for 3Yos that should be ready to face older. At lower tier tracks, most of this purse money would be better served by rewarding the local horsemen who keep the joint running.........
