Will Voodoo Song win (IIRC) his fourth race at this meet...and probably leading all the way again? :D

Oh man... I'm not gonna say it, but somebody has to.

Very nice field for the Saranac, looking forward to seeing Yoshida and Rocketry. Separationofpowers was maybe the best maiden winner all meet; looking forward to seeing what she does here. Unfortunately the Woodward field is an embarrassment.

The Woodward could have been a SIX horse field, but....

Just keep nudging us owners over the line in support of the need for a national racing czar. Either rabbits are allowed (and announced) or they are not. This is not hard, people!

http://www.drf.com/news/paoluccis-rabbit-barred-woodward-stakes
Asked if that meant horses who are entered and declared as rabbits would not be permitted in New York races in the future, Lewandowski said “We take everything on a case-by-case basis.”

A field of five was entered in the Woodward, led by Grade 1 Whitney winner Gun Runner, who drew post 2. Neolithic (post 1), Rally Cry (post 3), War Story (post 4), and Discreet Lover (post 5) round out the field.

The stewards did have the discretion to couple May B and War Story as one betting interest but opted not to.

“The stewards have the discretion to deny,” Lewandowski said.

I wonder if they had just said that they had an improving horse who seemed to fit, and who might work as a pacemaker for their closer, if the stewards wouldn't have gotten involved? :? That term, "Rabbit," seems to get a stronger reaction than "pacemaker."

I think we had a thread about this subject awhile back. Personally, I don't really care one way or the other about allowing them, although I tend to like them to ensure a lively pace.

The rule they cited, “the nominations or entries of any person . . . may be canceled or revoked without notice by the racing association or in the discretion of the commission or of the stewards,” is a good and useful rule, but not for this situation and it is not an excuse to NOT clarify what they're going to do about rabbits in any race at any level in the future. They acted arbitrarily and left the utility of entering rabbits/pacemakers as clear as mud. It's not like handicappers would have thought that May B had much of a chance to win this race, and they could have been coupled as an entry.

Also, if they were consistent about the entry of rabbits, the Stakes Coordinator could have warned the team how the stewards would see this. Personally, I as the owner just want to know what the rules are so we can plan our strategy. Sounds like Paolucci was trying to be honest and transparent and that should be encouraged, not used as a gotcha.

Though not an owner, I am in full agreement.... and for many, many reasons.

Yes! Yes, he did! He re-broke and turned back the favorite, Bricks and Mortar, and then just held off the charge by Yoshida to win by what looked like a head. And set a course record, if I heard correctly. :o
What a special horse this English Channel colt has turned out to be. IMHO, he has earned the opportunity to head west to Del Mar for the BC Mile.
