Expanded Racing at Saratoga a Possibility

They could probably manage another 5-10 more racing days. But the effects would be felt nationwide on meets before and after. More so than now.....those horses have to come from somewhere.......

Instead of thinking about expanded racing, maybe they should get important stuff right first.
What is going on with the vet inspections / track maintenance over there? They are only 1/2 way thru the meet, and they have almost passed the # of fatalities of last year's entire meet, in just 4 weeks?

John Pricci: "At last year’s Saratoga race meet, 14 horses suffered catastrophic injuries resulting in euthanasia Sadly, in 2017, the number of fatalities current stands at 11 and counting.

The skinny is there’s something demonstrably wrong with main track surface....."

This is obviously bad for the horses, but also for the bettors, beacause if the track is wonky, clods are flying, and horses aren't properly vet inspected before races, then you lose $$.

They had trouble filling many of the races at beginning of meet, due to not enough horses. Why would they think of expanding?

I got the impression from the original info that this wouldn't exactly be an expansion of Saratoga, but more the use of Saratoga's track to run races that would normally be running at Aqueduct or Belmont. If one or both of the city tracks is being renovated, it sounds like NY would move an Aqueduct and/or Belmont meet to the spa temporarily.

ANY chance they could be aiming for November in sync with Del Mar?

I've found it easier to tear up tickets at 8/1 instead of 8/5.

No one in their right mind would run their horses in that area in November.

You get the first snow of the year as early as Halloween.

Try Saratoga Springs, NY weather, not Saratoga, CA.
Knowing how to read the Racing Form is not horsemanship.
